The Premier League Golden Boot race is set to be fascinating in the 2026-27 season, with several established superstars joined by exciting forwards looking to take the next step. From Erling Haaland's relentless goal-scoring to João Pedro's impressive first season at Chelsea, there are plenty of contenders capable of producing huge numbers.
Here are our predictions for the top five contenders for the 2026-27 Premier League Golden Boot.
5. Igor Thiago
Igor Thiago was arguably the biggest surprise success story in club football last season. The
Brentford striker exploded onto the Premier League scene and finished the campaign with a ridiculous 22 goals, immediately establishing himself as one of the division's most dangerous finishers.
Naturally, expectations will be much higher this time around.
While Thiago has already demonstrated that he possesses the finishing ability and physical attributes required to thrive in the Premier League, replicating 22 goals could prove significantly more difficult. Brentford face an increasingly competitive battle around them, with several rival clubs strengthening considerably during the summer.
That could make it harder for Brentford to create the same opportunities and maintain the attacking consistency required to support another 20-plus-goal campaign.
Nevertheless, Thiago should remain one of the league's most productive strikers. Even if he doesn't quite reach last season's remarkable tally, another strong goal-scoring campaign looks very likely.
4. Bryan Mbeumo
Bryan Mbeumo's first season at
Manchester United was a fascinating one. He made a flying start after arriving at Old Trafford but suffered a dramatic dip in form later in the campaign, ultimately finishing the season on a disappointing note.
However, the early signs from preseason suggest that Mbeumo could be a completely different player this time around.
The Cameroon international has looked sharp and confident, while his versatility could be particularly valuable for Manchester United. He has even featured as a striker during preseason in the absence of Benjamin Sesko. Even once Sesko is fully fit and available to start, Mbeumo is still expected to occupy a role on the wings.
That could actually benefit his goal-scoring numbers, giving him opportunities to attack from wider areas while also cutting inside and arriving in dangerous positions.
With another year of adaptation behind him, 2026-27 could finally be Mbeumo's breakout season at Manchester United.
3. Viktor Gyökeres
Viktor Gyökeres endured a difficult start to his Arsenal career. The Swedish striker initially appeared to struggle with the intensity and pace of Premier League football, resulting in a somewhat disappointing opening period.
But as the season progressed, Gyökeres gradually found his rhythm.
Towards the end of the campaign, he came to life and became one of Arsenal's most dangerous attacking players, finishing the season on a much more encouraging note. That late improvement could be extremely important heading into his second Premier League campaign.
Gyökeres now has a full season of experience adapting to English football, Arsenal's tactical demands, and the physicality of the league.
With that learning curve behind him, expect a much more polished version of the striker in 2026-27. If Arsenal continue creating chances at a high volume, Gyökeres has all the tools to significantly improve his goal tally and challenge for the Golden Boot.
2. João Pedro
João Pedro enjoyed a stunning debut season with Chelsea, particularly considering how disappointing the campaign was for the club overall.
The Brazilian managed 15 Premier League goals and four assists, making his individual output one of the biggest positives of Chelsea's season.
There are several reasons to expect even more from him in 2026-27. For starters, João Pedro should enter the campaign fully fit and fresh after surprisingly being left out of Brazil's World Cup squad.
Chelsea also have the advantage of having no European football this season, meaning there should be fewer demands on the squad and potentially more consistency in their Premier League performances. With João Pedro expected to remain central to Chelsea's attack, another significant improvement in his numbers is certainly possible.
1. Erling Haaland
There are no surprises at the top.
Erling Haaland remains the clear favorite to win the 2026-27 Premier League Golden Boot.
The Norwegian is one of the best players in world football, and, when it comes purely to Premier League center-forwards, there is arguably no comparison. His combination of physical power, movement, positioning, and elite finishing makes him uniquely difficult to stop.
Haaland also enters the season fresh from a historic World Cup campaign with Norway, adding another major achievement to an already extraordinary career.
Despite
Pep Guardiola's departure, Haaland is still expected to be the focal point of the team's attack. The arrival and presence of creative players such as Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo should provide him with plenty of service, while the new system will likely be designed to maximize his greatest strength: scoring goals.
If Haaland receives the chances expected of him, another huge record-breaking Premier League campaign could follow.
