PSG wins Fifth Straight Ligue 1 Title

Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-0 victory over RC Lens at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis on May 13, 2026, clinched them yet another Ligue 1 crown in a record breaking 2025-26 season with a game to spare. Luis Enrique’s side eventually beat their closest competitor by eight points at the top, after looking to have engaged in a close title fight with them only months ago, showing their even more ruthless nature under the Spaniard. It is the third straight league title in his era and 59th collective honor in their history. They achieved this through 24 victories in 33 games and 76 points registered with the final game yet to be played. PSG scored a season high 73 goals and also possessed the best defence with just 27 goals conceded.

This was another chapter of the phenomenon of dominance and monopoly PSG has asserted in their domestic league, looking to continue it further with the club switching philosophy from their Galactico era of superstars to a cohesive unit of talents. The team now look for more glory ahead with a possibility of winning the Quintuple this season which no French club has achieved before. Having won the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA intercontinental Cup, the Trophée des Champions and now the Ligue 1 title, the side are gunning to retain their Champions League title when they face potential Premier League winners by then, Arsenal in the competition's final at Budapest on May 30. Here’s a look at the PSG’s Road to the 2025-26 Champions League Final

Below is a breakdown of the records and the milestones set by PSG after clinching the 2025-26 Ligue 1 title:

The Historic 'Five-in-a-Row'

For the first time in the club’s 56-year history, Paris Saint-Germain has won five consecutive Ligue 1 titles since last losing their dominance of the league to Lille in 2021. They have not failed to bag the league title from 2022. This suppressed their previous best tally of winning four straight titles in a row between 2013 and 2016. While Olympic Lyon have an unprecedented feat of winning seven straight titles in Ligue 1 history, this specific streak marks a new level of sustained consistency for the capital club as they chase that record with just two title wins away.

Most Top-Flight Titles in France

However, PSG has unmatched dominance in the overall Ligue 1 title victory with this triumph being their 14th in history. Undoubtedly, the vast amount of honors came when the club was taken over by the wealthy Qatari owners in 2011 with the side now winning 12 titles in this period. That solidify their place further at the top of all-time winners chart with no other French club coming close to their tally. They have further distanced themselves from Saint-Étienne who have 10 honors and rivals Marseille with nine, cementing their status as the undisputed kings of French football.

The "Youngest Champions" Project

A hallmark of the 2025-26 season has been Luis Enrique’s commitment to youth. PSG set a record for the youngest average starting XI for a title-winning side in Ligue 1 history, with an average age of exactly 24 years old. Only Captain Marquinhos, midfielder Fabian Ruiz and second choice left-back Lucas Hernandez are aged 30 or above in the squad. A total of six academy graduates was integrated into the senior squad this season. This showed the club has long squashed the superstar centric thinking and stressed on talented development toward a future-oriented project.

Collective Scoring

Another key factor of PSG's title victory was that they didn't rely upon one particular goalscorer to do the scoring to win games like before. They don't have to as they have a plethora of lethal forwards at their disposal. There is no singular face to pin everything on. Winger Bradley Barcola scored 10 goals, same as Balon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele and just this figure made them top scorers for the side. Exciting winger Kvicha Kvaratskhelia scored eight, the next best while Desire Doue got seven.

In all, 18 different players found the back of the net in Ligue 1 this season, the most for any PSG squad in a single campaign, showcasing a collective power that has made them impossible to defend against.

Defensive Excellence and Clean Sheets

It is not just the attack that thrived, Luis Enrique's men also shut down the opposition in a similar fashion. The side's defensive numbers improve especially in the latter half of the campaign when goalkeeper Matvey Safonov established himself as the number one ahead of summer signing Lucas Chevalier following the departure of Gianluigi Donnarumma to Manchester City. PSG has kept 17 clean sheets in the season and while it is not close to their record of 23 clean sheets, also an all-time league record, set in the 2012-13 season it still showed the defensive solidity of the side, anchored by a maturing backline and elite goalkeeping which has been the backbone of their campaign.

Road Warriors

The win against Lens established another fascinating record for the team. It was PSG's 11th away victory of the season. This is the highest number of wins earned on the road by any team in the division this season, proving that their dominance isn’t restricted to the Parc des Princes. The side picked up 35 points on the trip, scoring 35 goals and conceding just 15. They lost just three times but it was spread over months as the club established unbeaten streaks in between. The capital club had the best away form in the league this season compared to their home record which stands as second best.

Points Ceiling and Goals Per Game

With one game remaining, PSG currently sits on 76 points. While they cannot break the all-time Ligue 1 points record which was 96 points, set by them in the 2015-16 season, they can finish with 79 points. This would mark their second best tally in a 18-team league format from 2023-24 season. They have already equaled the points tally from that campaign. The team also currently averages 2.21 goals per game. A high-scoring finale in their last match could push them toward a seasonal average of 2.3, nearing the club’s most prolific attacking seasons.
