It felt like Tottenham Hotspur suffered their worst Premier League campaign in club history last season, as they nearly got relegated. They had to go through three managers to rescue their abysmal campaign. The Lilywhites only managed to survive on the final day and were also helped by eventually relegated West Ham’s poor form. Roberto De Zerbi steadied the ship in the final seven games of the season following his appointment in March after Igor Tudor’s forgettable short spell in charge, who himself took over from an awful period under Thomas Frank. Spurs finished 17th, the same position as last year, but they were far more chaotic and got engaged in the relegation dogfight, which made it worse. However, with the club going on a spending spree this summer and De Zerbi taking his first full season in charge, the club wants to recapture themselves in the new campaign with the hope of creating good memories this time.
Spurs have a likeable start to the 2026-27 campaign, avoiding any ‘top-six’ opponents until the end of September. Still, they have to make a tricky trip to Brentford to kick-start their campaign on 22 August 2026 before they face Newcastle United, now looking at a new dawn after Eddie Howe left the managerial role, in their first home game of the season a week later. The match against Nottingham Forest at City Ground is a revenge-seeking one after their devastating 3-0 loss in this fixture last season almost put them on the brink of relegation. After a replay of last season’s final game against Everton in which they ensured survival, De Zerbi’s side will face Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, against whom they picked up three crucial points in their run to maintain Premier League status. However, resuming action after the first international break won’t be kind to them as they will face Manchester United under Michael Carrick at Old Trafford.
In the same month, they will face Chelsea in the first proper London derby at Stamford Bridge before the schedule intensifies in the final month of the year. Spurs will host defending champions Arsenal in a fierce North London derby and make a trip to Anfield to face Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool in December. It doesn’t get easier from there as they face Manchester City, now led by Enzo Maresca, on the second day of the New Year and then again in the reverse clash a month later. The end of the season will bring the most difficult schedule for Tottenham as they will face three of the so-called ‘big six’ with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all lined up to make the affair miserable for them. They face the latter two at home and also have a challenging finish to the 2026-27 season as they will make the trip to Villa Park on 30 May 2027.
