Worst Premier League signings this season

We are here with our pick of the Worst Premier League signings this season. Billions were spent by Premier League clubs during the Summer transfer window in the hopes of improving their side with players that'll make a huge difference in their side and help them win major silverware. However, not all transfers have gone according to plan so far, and things don't look promising for certain players at the moment. Let's not waste any more time then. Scroll down below to find our pick of the top 5 worst Premier League signings of the 25/26 campaign.

2025-26 Premier League worst signings so far

Alejandro Garnacho (Chelsea)

Most football fans were confused by Alejandro Garnacho's decision to turn down Napoli and join Chelsea to stay in the Premier League. His former teammate Scott McTominay has gone through a career resurgence with the Italian club, and now Rasmus Højlund has improved as well after moving to the club. There's no doubt at all that Garnacho would've thrived in Italy under Antonio Conte. Instead, he is now struggling at Chelsea, where the huge array of attacking talent means no guarantee of proper minutes and immense competition. A bad career choice.

Anthony Elanga (Newcastle)

Anthony Elanga was one of those players who felt he wasn't being given enough opportunities at Manchester United, while most fans were of the belief that he wasn't simply good enough for the Red Devils. All this led to a move to Nottingham Forest, where Elanga went on to establish himself as one of the most exciting wingers in the league. Manchester United could also watch in retreat at his explosive pace and trickery that led Forest to numerous victories last season. This led to him finally earning a high-profile move to Newcastle. Sadly for him, things haven't been so good so far, and Eddie Howe doesn't even start him in most games right now. On the bright side, he still has enough time to make a great comeback.

Florian Wirtz (Liverpool)

Liverpool fans couldn't contain their excitement when it was announced that Liverpool had signed  Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a record breaking £116million transfer fee. To make matters perfect, he even rejected Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side to join the Reds. The high expectations haven't been met so far, as Wirtz has struggled to adapt to the intensity of the Premier League and also looks like a player who makes the entire side unbalanced. Time is still on his side, and he has also improved considerably in his past few games for Liverpool.

Alexander Isak (Liverpool)

From one record breaking Liverpool transfer to another, the reds broke their transfer record once again in the same window and signed Alexander Isak from Newcastle for a British record £125 million transfer fee. The move has been nothing less than a disaster so far, as Isak has been underwhelming whenever he has played, and he's played very few games as well due to numerous injury issues. To make matters worse, his competition for the striker spot, Hugo Ekiteke, has been excellent for Liverpool.

James Trafford (Manchester City)

When Manchester City re-signed their old academy player James Trafford from Burnley, the belief was that he would be coming back as City's new number 1 goalkeeper since club legend Ederson was on the verge of leaving the club. He even started a few games in the league as well for City, but it was towards the end of the summer transfer window that Manchester City ended up signing Gianluigi Donnarumma from Champions League winners PSG. The signing was unfortunately the end of Trafford's dream of becoming City's number 1 goalkeeper, and he has since yet to start a single game for City in the Premier League. An unfortunate disaster.
