East Bengal has started the 2025-26 ISL season in brilliant fashion registering two big wins against Northeast United and Sporting Club Delhi making them early favourites for the ISL Shield. The Red and Gold has scored seven goals in the opening two league games with their 32-year-old new striker Youssef Ezzejjari making an instant impact and was the main contributor behind those victories. The Singaporean international has scored a brace in each of those wins proving his worth. However, Oscar Bruzon men are only getting started as they have added another forward signing to the ranks after registering him for the ISL this season, sharpening up the frontline even further.
Anton Søjberg registered for ISL and available against Jamshedpur FC
East Bengal secured the services of Anton Søjberg in addition to the signing of Youssef Ezzejjari for more competition in the striking department. The Danish forward joins on a free in the winter transfer window and he joins as the sixth and final foreign signing for the season. The club secured his signature before the season kicked off as early as 9th February 2026 making him the first player from his nation to don the iconic Red and Gold jersey. Yet, due to delay in visa clearance which took over a week, Søjberg missed the first two games of the 2025-26 ISL season for East Bengal although the club did not face any scoring dilemma.
However, fans were pleased to see Søjberg arriving in Kolkata on 18 February 2026 and subsequently training with the squad. There is more happy news for the supporters as the 25 year old is now registered for the 2025-26 ISL season. It also means Søjberg will be available in the very next game for East Bengal with Jamshedpur FC visiting them for the third straight home game in the Salt Lake Stadium on 27 February 2025. With Ezzejjari firing from the start accompanied by the fiery number 10 Miguel Ferreira, Søjberg arrival is expected to make the Torch Bearer's attack which has already scored seven goals in just two games even deadlier.
Søjberg's profile and career
The excitement around Anton Søjberg is obvious because of the profile he carries. The striker developed in the youth systems of VSK Aarhus and AGF Aarhus. He made his senior breakthrough at Brabrand IF, where he played under his father, Tom Søjberg, and scored 20 goals over three seasons. However, Søjberg's professional career actually started in Scandinavia when he moved to Vendsyssel FF with his scoring prowess reflected during his time at the Icelandic club HK Kópavogur, netting four times in just nine appearances.
The real spotlight on the player came when a transfer to B36 Tórshavn, a giant in Faroe Islands, brought the best out of him. Søjberg contributed to 15 goals (10 goals and five assists) in 32 appearances for the side which also included playing in the qualifiers for the UEFA Conference League. Before arriving in East Bengal, the Danish striker also made a one year stint with Monterey Bay FC in the USL Championship. He was a regular starter, scoring 5 goals and recording 3 assists, though the club did not activate his contract option for 2026.
That helped the Red and Gold swoop in for the player who is entering his prime. Søjberg offers a lot to the East Bengal side not just by his scoring instinct but also with his versatility. The Danish dynamite is capable of playing not only as a center forward but also as a second striker or an attacking midfielder. That means he can partner with Ezzejjari up front and also with Ferreira to make a lethal front three. Søjberg's physical dominance, aggression, work rate and experience in playing in some of the toughest climates in Europe makes him an asset for Oscar Bruzon's men ready to unlock himself in the ISL.
