The year 2023 has been great for Indian sports other than cricket. Indian sports has had some truly incredible moments from sports such as chess, Asian Games, Badminton. Cricket was a mixed bag and the preparation for the Olympic Games in 2024.

A Near Perfect Performance in the 2023 World Cup


The 2023 ODI World Cup was an event that the entire Indian population was glued to and it all happened from the phenomenal performances from the Indian team match after match. It was looking as if there was no stopping the Indian team. India won all the 9 League matches against all the 9 teams and they won all the matches convincingly. They won their first 5 Matches chasing and the last 4 Matches chasing. The batters were incredible and the bowlers were amazing. The semi final was a match where India played the perfect match but lost the final


107 Medals at the Asian Games 2023


Before the Indian contingent went to the Asian Games the target was 100 medals and the Indian state got more. Neeraj Chopra won yet another Gold Medal but it was Kishore Kumar Jena who won the Silver Medal. Then there was Avinash Sable who won the 3000M Steeplechase event with some distance, Parul Chaudhary won the 5000M race at the last moment. The shooting stars won their best medal haul at the Asian Games and Archery was the star event as well with Ojas Deotale winning 3 Gold Medals. There was also the Mukherjee sisters who won a historic Bronze medal In Table Tennis after beating the number 2 Chinese team. 


Satwik- Chirag had their best year in Badminton


Badminton was a very good year for India. And the poster boys were Satwik- Chirag. They became the number 1 ranked doubles team in the world. They made history by becoming the first Team from India to win the Men’s Doubles Gold Medal at the Asian Games. They won the Gold Medal in China and they recently won the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. 


R Praggnanandhaa becomes a Chess Superstar 


It was a great year for Indian Chess and the biggest superstar of the year was R Praggnanandhaa. He was the man that took Indian chess to the next level. He was in the FIDE World Cup and he was the best player as he beat Hikaru Nakamura in the quarter final and then he beat Fabiano Caruana in the semi final and they are number 2 and 3 in the world. He lost in the final but he qualified for the Candidates in 2024


Indian Football Surged Ahead 


This was a very good year for Indian football and one of the best in recent Times. The Indian team won the Tri Nation Series in March and then the team won the International Cup and the SAFF Championship and the team gave the fans the hopes for a better 2024. The Indian team got below the 100 rankings in the FIFA rankings. Igor Stimac and Sunil Chhetri would like to do well in the Asia Cup next year. 


The 4*400M Men’s Relay Team did wonders in the World Athletics Championship


The World Athletics Championship was a great event for the Indian fans. The 4*400M Men’s Relay was an event that saw the Indian team make history. They broke the 3 minutes barrier in the heats. The team Muhammad Anas Yahiya, Amol Jacob, Muhammad Ajmal and Rajesh Ramesh had a timing of 2:59:05. And in the Final, India finished in 5th place in World Athletics Championship 2023


Neeraj Chopra completes Javelin Throw


Neeraj Chopra had an incredible 2023 and it was the year that he completed the Javelin Throw. He had won everything but one was remaining and there was World Athletics Championship Gold Medal and he finally won the Gold Medal this year and he also won the Asian Games Gold Medal and he is now looking to the Olympics and he would like to defend his Crown.
