Asian Games 2026: Kumkum Mohod Secures India's LA28 Olympics Quota With Historic Women's Recurve Individual Gold

Indian archer Kumkum Mohod created history with a women’s recurve archery individual gold medal, which also booked a quota for India in this event for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics.

In the Final on Saturday (3 October), Kumkum faced South Korean Oh Yejin. It was a thrilling tight battle, as the South Korean won the first game to get a two-point lead, while the second game ended in a tie, sharing both teams scoring one point each. Kumkum won the third game to equalise the set points by adding two points. While Oh won the fourth game, Kumkum once again equalised the set points by winning the fifth one, as the match moved to the shoot-off.

In the first shoot-off, Kumkum defeated Oh to snatch the gold medal, as it was the first-ever recurve individual gold medal for India in Asian Games history. It was India’s fifth archery gold medal at the Asian Games 2026, and it was India’s first individual gold in an archery event.

With this gold medal victory, India has confirmed a Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics quota in the women’s recurve archery individual event.

Earlier, on the same day, Kumkum defeated South Korean Kang Chae-young (6-4) and Chinese Zhu Jingyi (6-2) in the Quarterfinal and Semifinal, respectively.
