IPL 2025 Final, RCB vs PBKS: Royal Challengers Bengaluru Lift Their First IPL Trophy

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ended their long wait for their first trophy. They lifted the IPL 2025 trophy after beating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Final of the tournament by six runs at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday night (June 3).

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ended their long wait for their first trophy. They lifted the IPL 2025 trophy after beating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Final of the tournament by six runs at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday night (June 3).


Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer chose to field first after winning the toss. With the help of Virat Kohli’s 43 off 35 balls and four more 20+ scores (Mayank Agarwal 24, Rajat Patidar 26, Liam Livingstone 25, and Jitesh Sharma 24), RCB set the total of 190/9 in 20 overs. Among the PBKS bowlers, Arshdeep Singh (3/40) and Kyle Jamieson (3/48) claimed three wickets each. 


In reply, Punjab Kings needed 29 runs in the last over, and they scored 184/7 in 20 overs. Shashank Singh fought hard with his 61 not out off 30 balls (three fours and six sixes), hitting three sixes and one four in the last four balls of the match, while Josh Inglis scored 39 runs after 20s from the openers Priyansh Arya (24) and Prabhsimran Singh (26).


Among the RCB bowlers, Player of the Match Krunal Pandya had the bowling figures of 4-0-17-2 with 12 dot balls. Also, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/38) took two wickets.

RCB first IPL trophy 

  • Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their first IPL trophy. They became the eighth champions in IPL history. 

Successful defending in IPL Final 

  • It was the 18th IPL Final, and it was the 10th successful defending result in IPL Final history. 

  • RCB’s 190/9 was the fifth-highest successful defending total in IPL Final history. However, it was the lowest first innings total at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the IPL 2025.

IPL Final: 3 wickets by 2 bowlers in the same innings 

  • During the RCB innings, Punjab Kings pacers Arshdeep Singh (3/40) and Kyle Jamieson (3/48) both picked three wickets each. It was the first time in IPL Finals history when more than one bowler picked up three wickets in the same innings.

  • Shreyas Iyer became the first captain to finish as the champions and runners-up in two straight IPL seasons for two different teams.

  • Krunal Pandya became the first player to win more than one Player of the Match award in IPL Finals history. He previously won it for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2017 Final, when they beat Rising Pune Supergiant by one run.

Punjab Kings finished runners-up in their first 2 IPL Finals 

  • After RCB (2009 and 2011), Punjab Kings became the second team in IPL history to finish as the runners-up in both their first two IPL Finals (2014 and 2025).
