This rainstorms of runs are the backbone of IPL and heartbeats of the IPL’s fans too. 10 sessions of IPL has been passed which has provided a lot of opportunities to batsmen to marked their appearance in IPL. Many batsmen have also scorched these opportunities and looted massive runs.


Let’s discuss the top ten run scorers in the history of IPL:


1. Suresh Raina (CSK, GL):-


The first position is marked by the Indian Batsman and backbone of CSK, Suresh Raina, who has scored a total of 4985 runs in 176 matches which includes 35 fifties and one hundred. He had also led the captaincy of Gujarat Lions (GL) in two seasons of IPL i.e in 2016 and 2017 when CSK was banned from IPL. He had scored a total of 841 runs while playing from Gujarat Lions while the remaining runs from CSK.


2. Virat Kohli (RCB):-


The Captain of India and RCB, Virat Kohli is on the second position in the race of leading run scorers in IPL. He has scored 4948 runs in 163 matches including 34 fifties and four hundred. He is the heartbeat of RCB in terms of captaincy and batting as well. He is just 37 runs away in conquering the first position. He was so impressive as he smashed a mammoth 973 runs in IPL 2016 with four hundred and seven fifties at a massive strike rate of 151.42.


3. Rohit Sharma (DC, MI):-


The captain of Mumbai Indians and former player of Deccan Chargers, Rohit Sharma conquered the third position with 4493 runs in 173 matches which includes 34 fifties and one hundred as well. During 2008-2010 sessions of IPL, he had played from Deccan Chargers and scored the total of 1,170 runs.


4. Gautam Gambhir (DD, KKR):-


The former Captain of Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders, Gautam Gambhir is on the fourth position with 4217 runs in 154 matches which includes 36 fifties. He was picked up by the Delhi Daredevils franchise in the first player auction of the IPL and played till IPL 2010 from DD and in last year IPL also he had played for Delhi. He had scored a total of 1,182 runs while playing from DD.


5. Robbin Uthappa (KKR, MI, PW, and RCB)


Robbin Uthappa is on the fifth position with 4129 runs in 165 matches including 23 fifties. He had played from four different teams of IPL in his journey till now. In 2014 he set a world record by posting 40+ scores in 10 consecutive innings. He was picked by Mumbai Indians in the inaugural session of IPL and scored the total of 320 runs. Then for the next two sessions, he was bought by RCB for whom he had scored 175 and 374 runs respectively. For IPL 2011-2013, he had played for Pune Warriors and scored a total of 1,103 runs. From the last five IPL sessions, he has played for KKR and scored a total of 2,157 runs.


6. Shikhar Dhawan (DC, DD, MI and SRH):-


The sixth position is being taken by Indian Batsman again, Shikhar Dhawan with 4058 runs in 143 matches which include 32 fifties. He was being part of four different teams of IPL i.e Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He usually opens for his team. He was picked up by DD in 2008 and had scored 340 runs in that session. In next IPL, he was bought by Mumbai Indians and had played from MI for two sessions and had scored a total of 131 runs in both sessions. In IPL 2011-12, he had played for Deccan Chargers and scored a total of 969 runs. From IPL 2013-18, he had played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and scored a total of 2,424 runs.


7. MS Dhoni (CSK, RPS) :-


The former Captain of India and Rising Pune Supergiants and captain of Chennai Super Kings, legendary, MS Dhoni is on the seventh position with 4016 runs in 175 matches including 20 fifties. He usually does batting in fourth or fifth position or sometimes on six also which give him very less opportunity to face more than 5 overs. Due to the dismissal banned on CSK, he had led captaincy of Rising Pune Supergiants for two IPL sessions i.e. 2016 and 2017 and had scored 284 and 290 runs respectively.


8. David Warner (DD, SRH):-


The devastating Australian Batsman and former Captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad have marked his eight positions with 4014 runs in 114 matches which includes 36 fifties and three hundred. He had also bagged Orange Caps two times in the IPL 2015 and 2017. He had begun his journey of IPL in 2009 by playing for DD till IPL 2013 and scored a total of 1,435 runs for DD. From 2014-17 IPL, he was the run machine of SRH and scored a total of 2,579 runs for his team.


9. Chris Gayle (KXIP, KKR, RCB):-


The West Indies Giant and incredible batsman Chris Gayle has scored 3994 runs in 112 matches which includes 24 fifties and six centuries with a massive strike rate of 150.71. He has scored the maximum centuries in IPL. For the consecutive years, he was the leading scorer of the season and the winner of Orange Cap as well in IPL 2011 and 2012. While playing for KKR, he had scored a total of 463 runs and for KXIP (2018 IPL), he has scored 368 runs. His maximum years of IPL journey was with RCB (2011-17), for whom he had devoted a total of 3163 runs.


10. Ab de Villiers (DD, RCB):-


This South African Expolisive Batsman has not only marked his position in the leading run scorers of IPL but in the hearts of IPL as well as Cricket lovers too. He has scored 3953 runs in 141 matches including 28 fifties and three hundred with an amazing strike rate of 150.93.AB de Villiers also known as the 360-degree batsman, possesses hard hitting skills, more than decent wicket-keeper and an agile fielder that can put an acrobat to shame on the cricket field. He was picked up by DD in the inaugural season of IPL and had played for DD till 2010 and had scored the total of 671 runs, then after that, he has served RCB with the total of 3,282 runs.
