The 24-year-old equestrian Anush Agarwalla created history by securing India’s first-ever Olympics quota in the dressage event. It was also the country’s first quota secure in equestrian for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Last Monday (19 February), the International
Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) confirmed India’s first-ever Olympics
quota in dressage events, as Anush Agarwalla secured it with his top
performances in four FEI events.
How did Anush Agarwalla secure India's first equestrian quota for the Paris 2024 Olympics?
In four FEI events, Anush worked with his
horse, Sir Caramello Old. After scoring 73.485\% in Poland, he secured 74.4% in
the Netherlands. Later, the Indian equestrian managed 72.9% and 74.2% in
Germany and Belgium, respectively.
The National Olympic Committees
(NOC) have the authority to make the final decision on the national
representatives for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Equestrian Federation of
India (EFI) will organise a trial to confirm the final names for the upcoming
Summer Olympics.
Who is Anush Agarwalla?
Born in Kolkata, Anush Agarwalla began riding
at the age of three.
Along with Shruti Vora, Anush Agarwalla became
the first Indian dressage rider to participate in the world championships
during the 2022 World Equestrian Games in Herning, Denmark.
During the Asian Games 2023, Anush
became the first Indian individual equestrian to win an Asian Games medal in
the dressage event. He won the bronze medal in the individual dressage
event at the Asian Games 2023.
Earlier, Anush
was also a key part of the historic Indian gold medalist team dressage at
the Asian Game 2023.
