In the women’s 10m air rifle individual final event of the Asian Games 2026, India won the silver medal after Elavenil Valarivan finished in second position. In the meantime, Japanese Hinata Taichi claimed the gold medal with an Asian Games record, and South Korean Ban Hyo-jin claimed the bronze medal.
Indian Elavenil Valarivan, who was on the silver-medalist team in the women’s 10m air rifle team event at the ongoing Asian Games 2026, was leading the individual final battle till series 5 of the second stage, but the home shooter Hinata Taichi just managed to beat her in the final two series to snatch the gold medal. While Elavenil scored 252.4 in the final, gold medalist Hinata set a new Games Record with 253.0 score.
Republic of Korea shooter Ban Hyo-jin scored 230.4 to claim the bronze medal. While another Japanese Misaki Nobata (209.4) finished in fourth place, another Indian finalist, Sonam Maskar, ended in sixth position with a final score of 167.0.

Who is Elavenil Valarivan?
Elavenil Valarivan won an individual gold in the 2019 ISSF World Cup Final in Putian. She has shone with eight Asian Shooting Championships gold medals (including three individual medals), while winning three this year.
In 2022, Elavenil Valarivan was honoured with the Arjuna Award, the second-highest sporting honour of India.
