India, the Men in Blue, won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 title after a dominating victory against New Zealand in the Final of the tournament on Sunday night (8 March) at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. By winning the trophy, India set some historic records, which none of the other teams have achieved yet. So, without any doubt, we can say that India are the trendsetters, and we can prove it from the following stats.
1st team to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup trophy 3 times
After winning the inaugural edition in South Africa in 2007, India won the last two T20 World Cup titles in the West Indies and the USA in 2024 and India and Sri Lanka in 2026. India became the first team to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup trophy three times, while West Indies (2012 and 2016) and England (2010 and 2022) are the only other teams to win this title twice each.
1st team to defend the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup trophy
India successfully defended the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup trophy, which they previously won in the previous edition in 2024 when the West Indies and the USA hosted the tournament. By winning the 2026 edition at home, India became the first team to defend the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
1st hosts to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup trophy
India and Sri Lanka jointly hosted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. As India won the title, the Men in Blue became the first hosts to win the Men’s T20 World Cup trophy. The previous best was recorded in the 2012 edition when the hosts Sri Lanka finished as runners-up after losing the Final against the West Indies.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Final also experienced the following records:
India became the first team to record 200+ T20I scores 50 times.
India now strongly hold the record of most 250+ T20 scores, which they have recorded seven times. IPL team SunRisers Hyderabad are in second position by recording it five times.
