Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, the new Indian Test vice-captain, broke the legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni’s record with an exciting century knock in the Leeds Test.
India have started the 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship strongly, whose first assignment is the five-match Test series against the hosts England (Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy). Headingley in Leeds is hosting the five-match Test series opener, while English captain Ben Stokes chose to field first after winning the toss, and the visitors India scored 471 runs with the help of three centuries.
After the opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (101) and the new Test captain Shubman Gill (147), the new Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant smashed his seventh Test century. While he completed his 50 runs in the late moments on the first day of the Test match, the left-handed batter completed his century in 146 balls on the second day of the match. Before his lbw dismissal, Pant scored 134 off 178 balls with the help of 12 fours and six sixes.

With his seven Test centuries, Pant holds the record for most Test centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper. MS Dhoni previously held this record with six Test centuries.
After MS Dhoni (4876 runs), Pant became the second Indian wicketkeeper-batter to complete 3000 Test runs. At the end of the innings, Pant has scored 3082 Test runs.
Also, Pant surpassed MS Dhoni to record the most Test sixes by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter. While Dhoni recorded 78 Test sixes, all as the wicketkeeper-batter, Pant has hit 79 Test sixes. In the list of the most Test sixes by a wicketkeeper-batter, Pant now stands in the second position, just behind legendary Australian Adam Gilchrist’s 100 Test sixes.
By surpassing MS Dhoni, Pant is now the third most Test six-hitter in Indian cricket history.

It was Pant’s fourth Test century against England. He has moved to the joint top position in the list of most Test centuries against one opposition by a wicketkeeper-batter, along with the former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist (four Test centuries against New Zealand) and the former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal (four Test centuries against India).
