It was advertised that John Cena was going to be present at WWE Backlash 2026 and was going to make a big announcement. There was anticipation and also fear that the announcement should not be about Club WWE. However the reveal was much better and provided WWE with an opportunity to create new stars.


Let’s talk about the John Cena Classic Championship


The GOAT has his own Championship

WWE Backlash was held in Tampa FL and there were more than 14,000 fans present at the arena. John Cena was the co-main Event segment of the evening. He got a massive reaction like he usually gets. He first said that he was grateful to be here and he feels all the love from the WWE fans. He remembered his farewell night and how that night NXT superstars faced off against current main roster WWE superstars. Oba Femi, Sol Ruca and Je’Von Evans were standouts. Taking inspiration from that night he has introduced the John Cena Classic Championship. Now let’s look at the details


  • The Main Roster talent as well as the NXT Talent will compete to win this title. This will provide WWE to do multiple dream Matches that would not have been possible otherwise. Oba Femi will be on the main roster and he can compete against Tony D Angelo. Kendal Grey can face off against Rhea Ripley.

  • A brand new Championship is being introduced in the WWE. It will have to be built to be a credible title and as the name John Cena is attached the WWE fans will have extra love for the title. And the creative will be focussed.

  • The WWE fans will have the power to vote to crown the champion. They have wanted a voice and now they will have it. WWE will share more details about it in the days to come. It will be interesting to see what level of WWE superstars take part in this tournament.

  • The most unique thing about this title is that even the loser of the Matches can become the champion. These WWE fans will have all the power bases on the options WWE gives them. Some fans are joking that Akira Tozawa will be the champion but he will not even be in the tournament.

  • The first John Cena Classic Champion will most likely be crowned at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia in June. Starting Raw on Monday WWE will promote this title.
