The first ever 2 night SummerSlam Event started on 2nd August in front of 53,000 fans that were loud throughout the show. There were 6 Matches and 5 of those Matches delivered and that made SummerSlam Saturday a great and a very entertaining show. The wrestlers were motivated to show out and to tell the performers for Sunday to follow this.
Let’s look at the Results for WWE SummerSlam Saturday
Roman Reigns and Jey Uso beat Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed
This was the first match of the show. Roman Reigns was not the main event of a PPV for the first time in years. The match started with a brawl as all 4 men went at it. Jey made his entrance again mid match and the Tribal Chief was attacked but Jey Uso did a dive from the top rope. Roman Reigns did a Suicide Dive over the ropes and mid dive he converted into a blockbuster. Bronson Reed followed that with a dive of his own and took out both his opponents. This was a 22 minute Banger and Roman Reigns and Jey Uso hit the 1D but were unable to win. Bron wanted to Spear Jey Uso but Roman Reigns took it for him. This allowed Jey Uso to hit the Splash for the win. This was the perfect opener for the event.
Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss beat Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez for WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
The team of Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss has done wonders to the career of Charlotte Flair as she is being loved by the fans like never before. They both had a playful banter during their entrance. The match was 14 minutes long and it was a very very good match. Alexa Bliss has a very good punch as she hit Charlotte Flair by accident. Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez had a great match as they hit the Chokeslam and the Pop Rox on Charlotte but Alexa hit Natural selection. Alexa Bliss has Roxanne Perez in position for Sister Abigail and Charlotte hits the big boot on Raquel and they get the win. Having 2 future WWE Hall of Famers who are having such a great run as the tag team champions is best for business.
Sami Zayn beat Karrion Kross
This was the weakest match on the show. This was 9 minutes and it was so boring that Triple H did not even talk about it in the post show. These two have had 3 Matches and neither of them have been memorable. This match was basically to see whether Sami Zayn would turn heel and prove Karrion Kross right. Scarlett tried her best to help her man. She even tempted Sami Zayn with a chair but Sami Zayn hit the Helluva Kick to get the win. This was 9 minutes of nothing.
Tiffany Stratton beat Jade Cargill for WWE Women’s Championship
The difference between Sami Zayn vs Karrion Kross and this match was of quality. This was also a short Match of 8 minutes but these two women did so much in those 8 minutes. Jade had her best singles match in her WWE career. This 8 minute match was way better than the long match she had at WrestleMania 41 against Charlotte Flair. Jade gave Tiffany Stratton a suplex on the outside and Tiffany Stratton countered it with a Suicide dive. Tiffany Stratton hit a beautiful MoonSault and Jade Cargill hit her finisher but Tiffany had her boot on the bottom rope. Tiffany Stratton took advantage and hit the Prettiest MoonSault to get the win. Jade showed improvement and Tiffany will have a long reign.
Drew Mcintyre and Logan Paul beat Randy Orton and Jelly Roll
This was one of the most anticipated matches of the night. Drew Mcintyre and Logan Paul made their entrances first and were followed by Jelly Roll and Randy Orton. The match was basically 2 on 1 as Jelly Roll was taken out by Drew and Logan. Logan Paul hit one of his best Frog splashes on top of Jelly Roll through the announce table. This was a 17 minute match. Randy Orton had a comeback and he hit the DDT and as soon as Jelly Roll was going out of the arena, he got back in the ring and hit a Chokeslam on Logan Paul. In the end Logan Paul hit the Frog Splash and got the win. This was a very entertaining match.
CM Punk beat Gunther for World Heavyweight Championship
The main event had 2 components and they will be talked about separately. The first will be the match that CM Punk and Gunther had for the World Heavyweight Championship. This was a 31 minute instant classic and a 5 star match. To start the match both men were feeling each other out. Gunther then started hitting chops which were hurting Punk. The fans were rallying him on but Gunther was dominating. He hit multiple Powerbombs but was unable to pick up the win. Gunther hit the Splash but CM Punk kicked out. Gunther slammed CM Punk through the announce table. Later in the match, CM Punk came back and he hit the neck breaker. Gunther was busted open and CM Punk hit 2 GTS and he won his first World Championship in 12 years. He was very emotional and the fans were happy for him.
Seth Rollins Cashes in Money in the Bank and becomes World Heavyweight Champion
As CM Punk was celebrating with the fans, the music of Seth Rollins hit and he came out in crutches. He was going back but then he stopped. Ye threw the crutches away which was a great moment and then took out the knee brace. He rushed to the ring and he hit Punk with the briefcase multiple times before hitting the Stomp and Seth Rollins won the World Heavyweight Championship. This was a shocking conclusion to night 1.
