With the return of manager Owen Coyle for his second spell at the club, after he took the club to the ISL final in 2020, Chennaiyin FC are willing to get back to their best in the upcoming league season. The Marina Machans failed to go higher than the eighth position on the table for the last three campaigns. As a result, their previous playoff appearance was that run to the final.
Coyle’s side will kick start their season with two away trips to AFC Cup campaigners Odisha FC on 23rd September 2023 and then NorthEast United FC six days later. Their first home game came against ISL trophy defenders Mohun Bagan Super Giant in October. They are winless in this fixture when they have hosted it so far.
Chennaiyin FC will have the luxury of playing three home games after their away trip against last year’s ISL trophy winners Hyderabad FC. Newcomers Punjab FC, FC Goa and East Bengal FC will be the visitors to Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. They will take on Kerala Blasters as their first Southern rivalry game of the season on 29th November before facing Bengaluru FC a game later. Their closing game of the first half of the ISL campaign is against Shield winners Mumbai City FC.
