Masai Russell, the 26-year-old American athlete, created history by becoming the first to win the World Athletics Ultimate Championship title in the women’s 100m hurdles.
After the tight double Semifinals, the Final started freshly on the opening day of the three-day 2026 World Athletics Ultimate Championship battle. Although Masai Russell didn’t have a strong start, she quickly proved to be stronger with a memorable finish in 12.22 seconds to snatch the title.
Nigerian Tobi Amusan and Dutch Nadine Visser managed the next two places after completing the race in 12.34 and 12.39 seconds, respectively, as Devynne Charlton (12.40) from the Bahamas was just behind Visser. The fifth-placed Megan Simmonds from Jamaica (12.42) secured her season-best performance in the Final.

Who is Masai Russell?
The United States athlete Masai Russell has the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics gold medal and the last-week completed 2026 Diamond League title in women’s 100m hurdles. The 26-year-old currently holds the world record in women’s 100m hurdles, which she set in Zurich last August.
