Ready, steady, go! At the Comrades Marathon, the focus is on enjoying being active and having a great time.

When the starting pistol fires on ultramarathons, the finishing line can be days or even weeks away, pushing competitors' minds and bodies to their absolute limit.

The 95th Comrades Marathon will be a Down Run on Sunday, 28 August 2022 with approximately 23,000 participants from everywhere.

The race starts at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall at 05h30 and ends 12 hours later at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, covering a 90,2km distance. This is now the 47th Down Run in Comrades Marathon history.

This runner summed up their experience: "You run through the redwoods, then green hills with cows, then have gorgeous ocean views, then more hills. and also, the weather is perfect."

On race day, SuperSport will be live from 05h00 as they build up to the Comrades Marathon start at 05h30. There will be a continuous live broadcast right up until the 12-hour cut off takes place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium at 17h30, when the SuperSport team will wrap up the day’s action and go off air at 18h00, making it a 13-hour live production.

One very enthusiastic runner raves that "the crowds were amazing the whole route!" When the starting pistol fires folks get to run along with those who have called Comrades Marathon the toughest and "most unbelievable marathon experience" they've ever had

Runners have always enjoyed putting their bodies and minds to the test. But only the most dedicated and ambitious athletes will set out to compete.

Runner's come back year after year for the incredible fans. One runner says that "the spectators make it a kind of carnival with each neighborhood being different."

The Comrades Marathon, held in South Africa, is one of the world’s largest and oldest ultramarathon races. Runners can look forward to a total of more than 55 miles.  The difference in altitude of 870 meter (2,850 feet) is a challenge for everybody.

While this quest sounds pretty painful, runners can also expect incredible scenery. The fact is, it’s not every day you get to run through this famed endurance monster. How many times will you do that in your life? Runners have been impressed with the organization, the swag, and general beauty of the course.

The stunning views while running make you feel like you're running in a postcard.

The excellent change of the landscape between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. Beginner-friendly and flat, though the weather is slightly humid. "The first 10k are tough, but the terrain evens out after that.", said one runner.

What some people may not know is that Comrades Marathon today is one of the most paramount ultrarunning events on the international calendar. It has a rich 100-year history packed with amazing accomplishments by more than 400,000 finishers through the years. so you get to feel like a real trailblazer.

Some elite runners also use the Comrades Marathon to prepare for leading the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii will take place over two days in 2022. As announced in September 2021, the Pro women will race on Thursday October 6 and the Pro men on Saturday October 8.

Oh how the folks love that they announce every runner's names as they finish.  Every year, the course changes direction, and you’re not a finisher until you cross that line.
