India vs New Zealand in Cricket World Cup So Far

India will face New Zealand in Cricket World Cup 2019 at Trent Bridge. Here are some of the most memorable matches between the two sides in World Cup over the years.

India is all set to take on the Kiwis on Thursday at Trent Bridge. India and New Zealand are the only two sides that remain undefeated in the Tournament so far.  Interestingly the two teams have faced each other in the Cricket World Cup in England on 3 occasions and New Zealand have come out as winners in all the 3 matches. India although have managed to beat the Kiwis more number of times when it comes to their overall matches.


1. Turner’s Hundred takes New Zealand to Victory

On June 14, 1975, India played New Zealand for the very first time in the Cricket World Cup. India were all out for 230 with Syed Bid Ali top scoring for India with 70. Chasing 231 it was the New Zealand opener Glen Turner, that New Zealand opening batsman turned the match in his side’s favour as he scored a brilliant century. The New Zealand skipper top scored with 114 runs and helped his side, defeat India by 4 wickets.


2. New Zealand made it 2-0 in 1979


The Indians suffered yet another loss against New Zealand, as New Zealand comprehensively won the match by 8 wickets at Leeds. Sunil Gavaskar somehow managed to score 55 runs for which he faced 144 deliveries. India could only manage just 182 runs. New Zealand easily chased down the target, with 3 overs to spare. Bruce Edgar for his 84 runs was adjudged the player of the match.


3. Gavaskar Ton helps India Finally win against New Zealand.



On 24 March 1987 at Nagpur,  India tasted their first Victory against New Zealand in the Cricket World Cup. After restricting New Zealand to just 221, India went on to chase the target in only 32 overs. Chetan Sharma starred with the ball as he scalped 3 kiwi wickets, the hero of the bat was Sunil Gavaskar as he went on to score 103* off just 88 balls.


4. New Zealand beats India again in 1992.



On March 12, 1992, India faced the hosts at Dunedin, New Zealand. India managed to put a stiff target of 231 runs, courtesy a half-century by the little master. Sachin Tendulkar top Scored with 84 runs for India. New Zealand went on to win the game in the 48th over as Mark Greatbatch stroked a sublime 73 runs.


5. Zack attack at Centurion



In the 2003 World Cup at Centurion, a brilliant bowling spell from Zaheer Khan knocked over New Zealand. The blackcaps could only make 146 runs, as they were all out in just 45.1 overs. Zaheer destroyed the batting line up of New Zealand and India went on to easily chase down the target. India, in the end, won the match by 7 wickets.
