Unai Emery's Villarreal makes the trip to Munich for the second leg to defend their slender lead against Bayern in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Arnaut Danjuma's strike together with a pale display from the Bundesliga giants handed the Yellow Submarines a 1-0 victory at home. This was also the first time Bayern failed to score in the competition this season.

BAY vs VILL Champions League 2021-22 Quarter-Final Leg 2 Match Preview :
Bayern had to dig hard and only a penalty goal from Robert Lewandowski sealed all three points against the defensively stubborn FC Augsburg team. Julian Nagelsmann will be relieved but not satisfied by the performance as they are about to face opposition with a similar mindset and deadly counters. The league toppers felt the heat of Emery's tactics in the first leg and were fortunate to lose by just a goal. The first away defeat in the Champions League since 2017. The usual steamrolling Bayern failed to open the opposition's defence or even register a single shot on target until the 52nd minute. Nagelsmann's attacking tactics played into Villarreal's hands as they repeatedly broke away in space leaving the defence clueless. However, the German big hitters have their home form to savour. They have won five of their six home games in all competitions. The 7-1 dismantling of RB Salzburg in the round of 16 prove Bayern's ferocity at home. That being said, the Bavarians haven't progressed in the tournament after losing the first leg since 2014/15. The four defeats came against Spanish opponents.
The La Liga outfit should have gotten more than they deserved on the evening at Ceramica. Arnaut Danjuma deflected in a Dani Parejo shot before Coquelin's cross-less shot was chalked offside. Bayern was left in disarray as Gerrard Moreno, Lo Celso and Pedraza came close to doubling or tripling the lead, the latter misfiring two close-range efforts. Their one goal is undoubtedly a fragile one but one that Emery is happy to take to Germany. He believes his team can perform on the same level after ousting Juventus in the last round by playing the same way. The Europa League holders put up a wall against Bayern's attack and didn't shy to use the opposition's philosophy against them. More goals could have eased up the pressure ahead of the second leg although Villarreal have gained enough experience to defy the odds again. Regardless of their domestic form, Villarreal are turning out to be more than underdogs in Europe. If they emerge victoriously, it will be the first time Emery gets to taste a semifinal round of the Champions League and cause another uproar in the process.

BAY vs VILL Champions League 2021-22 Quarter-Final Leg 2 Team News :
Alphonso Davies made his long-awaited return at left-back for Bayern last week after months of battle with his heart condition. Lucas Hernandez is also available to feature after recovering from a thigh issue. Nikolas Sule is out through an illness along with Chupo Moting, Corentin Tolisso and Bouna Sarr.
For Villarreal, Alberto Moreno is the only long term absentee while Boulaye Dia is a doubt for this clash. The Senegal international is struggling with a muscular issue. Emery changed the entire eleven in the 1-1 draw against Bilbao at the weekend from the first leg so everyone else should be fit and raring to go.
