Sometimes there’s nothing sweeter than new beginnings. And what better to describe sweetness than the quick return of the Premier League. A lot of changes have been made over the transfer window with big wigs like Timo Werner and Kai Havertz blazing their way into the English stage. Leeds, West Brom and Fulham are the new entrants and with the performance of Sheffield last season, people have to take them very seriously. Naturally the Fantasy Premier League has rolled back and people are hungry to get points from the get-go.

Here are the top 5 picks for Fantasy Premier League in Gameweek 1:

#1. Trent Alexander-Arnold (DEF;Liverpool vs Leeds)

Yes. Leeds might turn out to be a diamond in the rough but Liverpool had a superb season and for the most part, they seemed invincible. Trent Alexander-Arnold was a huge factor in that. He was one of the highest scoring (points) in the FPL and the only defender to go past 200 points. His role is simply too diverse to ignore. He not only has access to clean sheets but the team is dependent on him for crosses making him a crucial pick. He might be pricey at 7.5 but you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who thinks he isn’t worth the price.

#2. Lewis Dunk (DEF; Brighton vs Chelsea)

Despite being a defender, Dunk managed 3 assists and goals last season. He has proven to be a useful wild card and was impressive towards the tail end of the league. Chelsea is practically the opposite of a weak opponent but factoring in that Dunk’s price tag is 5, he could prove to be that one small investment that goes past the expected returns.

#3. Rui Patricio ( GK; Wolves vs Sheffield)

Patricio was one of the highest scoring goalkeepers last season and given how defensively the team can tend to play at times, he could repeat himself. He had a nice tally of 13 clean sheets and was very good throughout the season. His sense of consistency gives him a spot on the list.

#4. Kieran Gibbs (DEF; West Brom vs Leicester)

A difficult task lay ahead for West Brom as their first opponent is Leicester. But they were the 3rd best defensive side in the Championship. Keiran Gibbs had a great record. He racked up 1 goal and 2 assists in 14 games. He is going for 4.5 and could be that ultimate value for money pick, similar to Lundstram in the 2019-20 season.

#5. Danny Ings (FWD; Southampton vs Crystal Palace)

Danny Ings was a critical player for Southampton. He was 2nd on the goal scoring list(tied with Aubameyang) despite his team being in the bottom 10. He often scored in difficult matches, where the team was simply overwhelmed. He’s going for 8.5 which is a steal given how often he puts the ball into the net.
