The gameweek 10 is upon us with the matches set to kick off on Saturday afternoon. After a midweek of Carabao cup where we saw many big names being rested, the teams should have these players back for the coming gameweek. The FPL deadline is on Saturday, 3:30pm IST, before which the managers will be looking for changes to be made in their squad.

Let us have a look at the top 5 defender picks for Gameweek 10:

1. Antonio Rudiger (£5.8m), Newcastle vs Chelsea

Chelsea have been arguably one of the best defensive sides this season in the Premier League. Antonio Rudiger, since Tuchel’s arrival has gone on to become one of the first names in the Blues’ defence. The German international is now back from his injury and looks set to play this weekend.

Newcastle have not been the poorest of sides going forward but Chelsea will give them a stern test. Rudiger will play a crucial in the fixture and carries the threat of scoring from set-pieces as well.

2. Joao Cancelo (£6.4m), Manchester City vs Crystal Palace

Cancelo has established himself as a regular in Pep Guardiola’s side. Pep Roulette which is infamous with the FPL managers is something which makes them think twice before taking a Manchester City asset. However, Cancelo has established himself as a safe pick having started in all the 9 games this season.

Crystal Palace is yet another game, where City will be favourites to win and in process keep a clean sheet. With the form that Cancelo is in, playing on both the flanks in defence and often creating chances, it is difficult to leave him out of the FPL team. The defender has already registered 51 points and is selected by 26% of managers. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.6m), Liverpool vs Brighton

3. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.6m), Liverpool vs Brighton

Although the full-back plays as a defender, the ceiling of attacking returns of TAA is that of midfielder. The defender already has 3 assists to add to the clean sheets which makes him one of the popular FPL picks. The highest priced defender is selected by 26.8% of managers.

Brighton will not be the easiest of fixtures with the way Seagulls have started this season. However, the attacking potential of TAA recovers for the clean sheets which Liverpool do not get. Hence, Trent should be one of the defenders in every FPL manager team not only for this game but a long-term pick.

4. Pontus Jansson (£4.7m), Burnley vs Brentford

This is one of the differential picks from a side which has impressed in the Premier League. Brentford, despite not getting the results have played brilliantly in the first 9 games and now face an easier run of fixtures. Jansson the experienced head and one of key men in Brentford’s defence can be a shout for coming gameweeks.

Brentford’s defensive resilience has been seen even against the likes of Chelsea. Starting off with Burnley, Brentford will go on to face the bottom three sides of the Premier League in their next three fixtures. Due to this, going with a Brentford defender could be a good shout for those who want to take risks. Jansson is selected by 10.1% of managers and could prove to be a great differential and improve your rank.

5. Diego Llorente (£4.5m), Norwich vs Leeds

This could be a high-risk pick with the poor form of Leeds, but with risk comes reward. Leeds, who are winless in their last 2 games will face Norwich in their next game. Norwich could just be the fixture which could get Leeds back on the winning track. The Canaries conceded 7 goals last week against a high-flying Chelsea and are in danger of conceding high against Leeds too.

Llorente could be a contender for the clean sheet points and as seen in Gameweek 8, he could give you an odd goal which will result in a double figure haul. Norwich have not been the best sides to score so this looks like a good opportunity to capitalize on it.
