The FPL deadline day for Gameweek 5 is here as the FPL Managers look set to lock in on their teams. After a midweek of European football, changes can be expected in the lineups of those who played the European fixtures. After 4 gameweeks, the FPL Managers are now getting an idea of the core players that should be kept throughout the season.

Here we are with our top 5 defender picks for Gameweek 5:

1. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m), Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

Trent Alexander-Arnold, although is a defender, he gives the returns like any other midfielder. Having assisted twice in the first 4 games, he looks set for yet another haul against Crystal Palace.

A game against Crystal Palace not only boosts the chances of a clean sheet but also of attacking returns. After scoring in the midweek against AC Milan in the Champions League, TAA has again proven his worth. He is selected by 35.8% of the managers and has become one of the must haves in the FPL.

2. Kyle Walker (£5.5m), Manchester City vs Southampton

Kyle Walker is a differential pick, however, after being rested midweek in the UCL fixture, the Englishman looks set to play against Southampton. The Southampton fixture proves to be a good opportunity for a clean sheet coupled with the attacking returns that Walker can provide with his potential.

He is currently owned only by 5.8% of FPL Managers and could prove to be a great differential for this gameweek.

3. Marcal (£4.6m), Brentford vs Wolves

Wolves have been one of the most impressive teams, despite winning their first match only in GW 4. Their defensive setup looks solid and added to it the fact that they have an easier run of fixtures going ahead, Marcal can be a good addition into the team.

The left wing back rewarded his owners with 14 points in Gameweek 4 and looks set for a similar return against Brentford, who are yet to fully get going in this season.

4. Kieran Tierney (£4.9m), Burnley vs Arsenal

Arsenal have been one of the poorer sides in the start of the season having lost 3 out of their first 4 games. It was only against Norwich last week, that they got their first win. However, irrespective of the losses, Kieran Tierney has been impressive on the left-hand side.

Tierney has the potential for attacking returns as well and a fixture against Burnley can be a great option for any FPL Manager considering a budget defender.

5. Antonio Rudiger (£5.5m), Tottenham vs Chelsea

Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel have been one of the most impressive sides in this season’s Premier League. The Blues are yet to concede this season from open play thanks to the resolute Chelsea defence. Antonio Rudiger has been one of the mainstays of the Chelsea backline and could prove to be a great addition into the FPL teams.

The fixture against Spurs will not be easiest to keep a clean sheet but the absence of Son coupled with injuries to Lucas and Bergwijn means a good chance for Chelsea to take all the 3 points and perhaps keep a clean sheet.
