In what would undoubtedly be a huge blow to Chelsea, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that AC Milan Goalkeeper Mike Maignan has decided to resign with the club and sign a new contract. Chelsea were interested in signing Maignan during the 2025 Summer Transfer Window, but the Blues failed to reach a deal with AC Milan. With Chelsea Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez being quite inconsistent and failing to establish himself as a world-class Goalkeeper, Chelsea must soon sign a top-quality Goalkeeper. One thing is certain now though, the replacement for Sanchez certainly won't be Maignan.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that AC Milan have wrapped up a key piece of business by reaching a verbal agreement with Mike Maignan over a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2031.
The deal is now expected to move into its formal stages, but the agreement is already in place. This is a major relief for AC Milan, as Maignan was due to be out of contract at the end of the season, putting his future in doubt.
Romano also pointed out that there was some interest from Chelsea, who were watching the situation with the idea of a potential free transfer. However, that move never developed, and Milan have now ensured their star goalkeeper remains a long-term cornerstone of the team.
Chelsea Desperately Need to Find a new Goalkeeper
With Mike Maignan set to renew with AC Milan, that is one more Goalkeeper who's now out of the goalkeeper market in the transfer. Chelsea fans for a very long time have been demanding the club to sign an elite Goalkeeper, as Robert Sanchez has made one error after the error and has received huge criticism from the Chelsea fans since he joined the club in 2023 from Brighton. Although Sanchez has shown huge potential in certain games, he has overall been a disappointing signing who's failed to prove himself to be a world-class Goalkeeper who can perform consistently.
Chelsea were previously linked with former PSG Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma when he was available in the transfer market, but the Italian ended up joining Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in the end. It must undoubtedly be frustrating for Chelsea supporters to see their club not taking the Goalkeeper position seriously and letting go of the chance to sign top players in the position. We'll have to see how the Chelsea Goalkeeper situation develops, as all signs currently point towards the Blues signing a top Goalkeeper in the Summer transfer window.
