Sky Sports Italy have confirmed that Liverpool are exploring another Dutch option for the right flank after Jeremie Frimpong’s injury. The Reds have made an initial inquiry to Inter about Denzel Dumfries, who is currently sidelined with an ankle issue. Any potential move will depend on the seriousness of Frimpong’s injury and Inter’s stance on a deal. Dumfries has only 11 Serie A appearances for Inter due to the injury he suffered earlier this season. However he has proven himself to be one of the best right-backs in the world over the past few seasons, and hence Liverpool's interest is understandable.
Fabrizio Romano confirms that Liverpool have made enquiry about Denzel Dumfries to Inter Milan
The following is what Fabrizio Romano has to say on his YouTube channel regarding Liverpool's interest in Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries:
“Liverpool asked about the situation of Dumfries. His release clause (approx. €20m-€25m) is not valid in January, it’s only valid in the summer.
“But the understanding is Liverpool asked about the player and the injury situation. At the moment, Dumfries is still expected to be out for around 10 or 15 or 20 days, shouldn’t be a long one, this is the expectation.
“So Liverpool got this information, but at the moment they didn’t send any bid and didn’t start a negotiation.
“My understanding is that Liverpool could only consider this possibility on a loan deal, and Inter don’t want to do a loan deal for Dumfries.
“So at the moment there is nothing in it, it’s just conversations club-to-club.”
Player Analysis: Denzel Dumfries
Denzel Dumfries is widely recognised for his relentless energy, physical power, and unshakable self-belief. Former teammates and coaches describe him as humble off the pitch but fiercely driven on it, with elite stamina, strength, and an aggressive, direct playing style. Known for constant forward runs and defensive intensity, he can be overwhelming for opponents. While sometimes criticised for over-enthusiasm or decision-making, Dumfries has consistently shown growth, resilience, and a strong commitment to improving his game at the highest level. Coincidentally, Jeremie Frimpong, whose injury has led to Liverpool looking at Dumfries, had once praised the right-back as “one of the best in the world” during his time at Leverkusen.
Our opinion on Liverpool signing Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan
Based on the statement of Fabrizio Romano, we feel there is absolutely no chance that Liverpool can sign such a high-profile player like Denzel Dumfries with the January Transfer window about to finish, that too on a loan deal. Even a permanent deal doesn't seem to be possible, as Inter Milan won't even have the required time to replace such an important player like Dumfries for a crucial second half of the season. So our final answer is a 100% no regarding any Liverpool for Dumfries happening. Whether Liverpool come back for Inter Milan's Dutch right-back in the Summer transfer window is something we'll have to wait and watch.
