Germany’s preparation for Euro 2024 continues with three friendlies lined up in June. Die Mannschaft will be hosting the tournament next summer in what will be the third major international competition on their soil. Flick will use these series of non-competitive games to shuffle his side and find the ultimate roster for the competition. Germany are going to face Ukraine and Colombia in Colombia with a trip to Poland in between in the next three matches.

Previous results

Germany 2-0 Peru - Mewa Arena, Mainz (26 March 2023)

Germany 2-3 Belgium - RheinEnergieStadion, Koln (29 March 2023)

The preparation for the Euros got off to a flyer with Germany registering a comfortable 2-0 win over Peru in an international friendly. Niclas Füllkrug scored twice helping his side to recover from their exit from the group stages of the World Cup in Qatar. However, they lost the next friendly to Belgium easily irrespective of the scoreline suggested. Füllkrug found the net before half-time to cut the deficit of two quick-fire goals from Yannick Carrasco and Romelu Lukaku inside 10 minutes.  Kevin De Bruyne scored a third for the Red Devils to render Serge Gnabry’s late goal meaningless.

Germany Squad

Goalkeepers: Marc-André ter Stegen (Barcelona), Bernd Leno (Fulham), Kevin Trapp (Frankfurt)

Defenders: Matthias Ginter (Freiburg), Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid), Nico Schlotterbeck (Dortmund), Jonas Hofmann (Gladbach), Lukas Klostermann (Leipzig), Marius Wolf (Dortmund), David Raum (Leipzig), Thilo Kehrer (West Ham), Malick Thiaw (Milan), Benjamin Henrichs (Leipzig), Robin Gosens (Inter)

Head Coach: Hansi Flick

Manchester City’s Ilkay Gündogan and Robin Gosens of Inter will join the rest of their national mates later after being involved in the recently concluded Champions League final. Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry missed out on the final list of the squad due to an ankle injury while his teammate Thomas Muller is not called up by the manager. Kevin Schade also pulled out for a muscular problem. Forward Timo Werner is also a major doubt with a foot injury. Leon Goretzka and Kai Havertz have been included despite suffering through poor form for their respective clubs. Werder Bremen’s Niclas Füllkrug has scored his career-best total of 16 goals in the Bundesliga this past season. The 30-year-old has also found the net in each of the last four games for Germany and has netted six in total in six appearances since making his national team debut last November.

Germany vs Ukraine - Weserstadion, Bremen

The game against Ukraine will be a landmark moment for Germany as it will be their 1000th international match in history. They are unbeaten in all of the previous eight meetings of this fixture, winning five and drawing three.

Saturday, 17 June 2023

Poland vs Germany - Stadion Narodowy, Warshaw

The national team will make the first trip out of Germany in 2023 to face Poland in Warshaw. So far, Die Mannschaft have played 21 matches with the Pols and lost just once. Of them, Flick’s side have managed 13 wins in this meeting although they have only one victory in the last five.

Wednesday, 21 June 2023

Germany vs Colombia - Veltins-Arena, Gelsenkirchen

Germany will be back at home to face Colombia in the last of the three friendlies. No loss to show in the overall four face-offs with the South American nation so far marks a fantastic record. These two will meet for the first time since 2006 in which the Germans won 3-0 thanks to strikes from   Michael Ballack, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Tim Borowski.
