We are here with the latest Newcastle Transfer news, and Football Insider is reporting that Newcastle are interested in signing Sassuolo centre-back Tarik Muharemović. Eddie Howe's Newcastle side are currently going through an injury crisis at the moment, with the likes of Tino Livramento, Fabian Schar, Dan Burn, Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth all out injured at the moment. If Newcastle wish to qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season, then signing a defender in their current defensive situation looks to be a necessity at this point.
Newcastle Target Tarik Muharemović's Career so far
Muharemović began his football journey at local clubs before joining the youth academy of Austrian side Wolfsberger AC in 2019. His rapid progress earned him a professional debut on 25 April 2021 against Red Bull Salzburg when he was just 18 years old.
In August 2021, he took a major step by signing a four-year contract with Italian giants Juventus. Playing mainly with the club’s reserve team, he scored his first professional goal in December 2022 against Arzignano. His development was rewarded with a new three-year contract in September 2023.
A season-long loan to Sassuolo followed in August 2024. He quickly made an impact, debuting in September and scoring his first goal for the club days later in the Coppa Italia. He added his first league goal in December and became a key figure as Sassuolo won the Serie B title in May 2025, securing promotion to Serie A. The club signed him permanently and later extended his contract until 2031.
Muharemović has been excellent for Sassuolo in the current 2025-26 Serie A campaign as well, having scored 2 and assisted another 2 despite playing as a centre-back.
Internationally, Muharemović represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at youth level, captaining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut in June 2024 and scored his first international goal a year later against Slovenia.
Will Tarik Muharemović join Newcastle?
The current transfer reports are not strong enough to suggest that Newcastle will be making an official move for Tarik Muharemović. If Eddie Howe's side do end up entering into direct transfer talks with Sassuolo, then it is expected to be a complicated one since the newly-promoted Italian club wouldn't want to lose their star defender in the middle of the season.
As for Tarim Muharemović, the future looks bright at the moment, and he could end up being a rare superstar defender that we see from Slovenia that makes his country proud.
