Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Raheem Sterling is finally expected to leave the club. The report mentions that Raheem Sterling is set to leave Chelsea in the coming days, with all sides pushing to resolve his future quickly. Chelsea are open to letting him go, and discussions with Sterling’s representatives are ongoing as they look to finalise a solution before Monday. If Sterling ends up leaving, it would mean the end of his horrible time at Chelsea, which even saw him banned from the main squad and instead demoted to Chelsea's bomb squad. The transfer has been a financially disastrous one for Chelsea as well, with Sterling still being the highest paid player at Chelsea despite not even being a part of the first-team.
Raheem Sterling's disastrous time at Chelsea
Raheem Sterling joined Chelsea in July 2022 for £47.5m, arriving with high expectations. He made a solid start, scoring early goals in the Premier League and contributing in the Champions League, including strikes against RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund during the 2022–23 season. There were brief flashes of form, such as braces against Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and later Luton Town, but consistency proved elusive.
Despite occasional highlights, Sterling struggled to establish himself as a key figure. Managerial changes and tactical uncertainty did little to help, and his influence steadily declined. The situation worsened in August 2024 when new head coach Enzo Maresca openly admitted Sterling would find minutes hard to come by, effectively signalling the end of his Chelsea career.
Sterling was loaned out to Arsenal for the 2024–25 season in search of a fresh start. However, his time under Mikel Arteta failed to revive his form, with only a single EFL Cup goal to show for his spell.
When Sterling returned to Chelsea in June 2025, his standing at the club had collapsed completely. He was exiled from the first-team squad, forced to train separately and denied access to main facilities. His time at the club is undoubtedly a disappointing and turbulent one that won't be looked back on with fond memories.
Our opinion on Sterling potentially leaving Chelsea
Raheem Sterling's name will always be there in any list of the best Premier League players in modern history, as his time at Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side was nothing less than remarkable. However, his stint at Chelsea has been nothing less than an absolute nightmare. We feel both Chelsea and Sterling should sort out everything that's needed and quickly have the player leave the club for good. It is sadly one of those instances where it's best for both parties to go their separate ways with no hard feelings.
