Champions League Team of the Week Matchday 2
Goalkeeper
Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid)
With a total of 4 saves that helped his club keep a clean sheet and also even providing an assist, Thibaut Courtois undoubtedly deserves to be our matchday 2 UCL team of the week goalkeeper.
Defenders
Nuno Mendes (PSG)
Nuno Mendes is continuing his excellent Champions League from the previous season even now, and his outstanding assist during Barcelona vs PSG was a reminder of his extraordinary talent. Simply sensational.
Robin Le Normand (Atletico Madrid)
Robin Le Normand had one of those perfect games that are rare for defenders. Not only was he vital in defense, but he also scored a goal in Atlético Madrid's 5-1 thrashing of Frankfurt.
Dean Huijsen (Real Madrid)
Dean Huijsen is slowly emerging as one of the best center back signings in Real Madrid history. He has been fabulous since his move from Bournemouth to Los Blancos, and the scary thing is that he's still just 20 years old.
Achraf Hakimi (PSG)
Speaking of Real Madrid defenders, Los Blancos must be regretting their decision to let Achraf Hakimi leave. It is a very rare instance in world football that a defender leaves Real Madrid and establishes himself as the best in his position. Hakimi is simply special and Barcelona witnessed it.
Midfielders
Sandro Tonali (Newcastle United)
Sandro Tonali was at the heart of Newcastle's midfield in their dominating 0-4 victory over Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. Newcastle fans will certainly hope for many more of these from one of their record midfield signings.
Kevin De Bruyne (Napoli)
Kevin De Bruyne clearly showed us why form will be temporary and class is permanent. He assisted both goals of teammate Rasmus Højlund to help Napoli win 2-1 against Sporting.
Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United)
This is the Anthony Gordon that Newcastle fans and Eddie Howe would want to see on a regular basis. Not only did he impress with his fantastic display in the wings, but Gordon also showed his composure by scoring 2 penalties as well.
Michael Olise (Bayern Munich)
Michael Olise has been nothing less than absolutely brilliant since signing for Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace. He was involved in 3 goals when Bayern destroyed Pafos 5-1. If he continues to play like this, Real Madrid or Liverpool might soon come calling for him.
Forwards
Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid)
Kylian Mbappé is on an epic run of form right now, and if he manages to keep playing like this and lead Los Blancos to Champions League success, then the next Ballon d'Or might be waiting for him. He definitely seems like the successor to Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid based on what we've seen so far.
Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
If Erling Haaland continues to play like this, then anything is possible for Manchester City despite their underwhelming form. The Norwegian is back to his very best, and Pep Guardiola's side must play to his strengths for their best shot at European silverware.
