Champions League Team of the Week: Semi Finals First Leg
Goalkeeper
David Raya (Arsenal)
David Raya made a couple of crucial saves in Arsenal's 1-1 draw against Atlético Madrid. It could be argued that Arteta's side might've suffered a defeat if not for the heroics of Raya.
Defenders
Achraf Hakimi (PSG)
Achraf Hakimi provided one of the assists for PSG in their 5-4 win over Bayern, and was overall solid as well. He was later injured though, and will be a huge loss for Luis Enrique's side in the second leg.
William Saliba (Arsenal)
William Saliba made sure that Arsenal were solid enough in the back against Atlético Madrid, and he'll be expected to do the same when Atlético arrive at the Emirates.
Marc Pubill
Similar to William Saliba, Atlético Madrid's Marc Pubill had a solid defensive outing for Atletico Madrid. The fact he's still just 22 is unbelievable, and he could potentially develop himself into a world-class defender.
Piero Hincapié (Arsenal)
Arsenal's Piero Hincapié did struggle a bit when going forward against Atlético Madrid. However, his defensive work was impressive and thus he deserves to be in this list.
Midfielders
Michael Olise (Bayern Munich)
Words won't be able to do justice to what Michael Olise has been doing for Bayern Munich this season. Not only was he brilliant against PSG, but he could very well be football's number 1 winger right now.
Declan Rice (Arsenal)
Declan Rice ran the show for Arsenal against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League. He was equally impressive both in defensive and attacking aspects of the game for Arteta's side.
João Neves (PSG)
For the second straight season in a row, João Neves has been exceptional for PSG in the Champions League. His set-piece goal in the game was simply phenomenal.
Antoine Griezmann (Atlético Madrid)
Antoine Griezmann proved to us that class is permanent with his performance against Arsenal. The fact he's able to put in such terrific displays at age 35 needs to be applauded.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (PSG)
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's devastating combination of pace, dribbling ability, and lethal finishing has made him one of the most feared players in world football. He was a menace for the Bayern defenders during the game.
Striker
Ousmane Dembele (PSG)
Although his season has been heavily affected by injuries, Ousmane Dembele once again proved to the whole world why he won the Ballon d'Or with his unbelievable performance against Bayern. With 2 goals and an assist, he was the game-changer for PSG.
Conclusion
As the semi-finals remain finely balanced, this selection serves as a snapshot of excellence from the opening encounters. The performances recognized here not only defined the first leg but also set the tone for what promises to be a gripping second chapter. With qualification still undecided, the players featured have given their teams a crucial edge, yet the battle is far from over. Expectations will be even higher as the return fixtures approach, where consistency and composure will determine who ultimately earns a place in the final and a chance at European glory.
