Thomas Frank was finally sacked by Tottenham after his disastrous spell as club manager, and now reports indicate that Mauricio Pochettino and former Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi are currently the top candidates to take over as new Spurs manager.
The widespread expectation was that Thomas Frank would have a successful stint as Spurs, at least in the initial phase. However, it later became clear that the former Brentford manager and Spurs were an underwhelming pair from the very beginning, and things were only going to get worse. It indeed got to a miserable situation in the end, as Thomas Frank's Spurs are now 16th in the Premier League with a record of 7 wins, 8 losses, and 11 draws. Thus, the club had no choice but to sack Frank.
Journalist confirms Mauricio Pochettino and former Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi current favourites to become next Spurs manager
Football journalist Ben Jacobs has confirmed on X that former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi, who recently left French club Marseille, are currently the leading candidates to replace Thomas Frank as the next manager of Tottenham. The likes of Robbie Keane and Francesco Farioli have also been discussed by the club.
The post has also mentioned that both Pochettino and De Zerbi are said to have unfinished business in the Premier League. That statement is undoubtedly a true one, with Pochettino leaving Spurs in 2019 after getting sacked and De Zerbi leaving Brighton in 2024 due to certain irreconcilable differences he had with the club .
Our opinion on who should replace Thomas Frank as the next Tottenham Hotspur manager
It was quite unfortunate that Thomas Frank's time at Tottenham Hotspur ended the way it did. He is undoubtedly a fantastic coach, and the work he did at Brentford was simply fantastic. It was a simple case of a decent manager joining a club that wasn't right for him.
Coming to his successor, we feel appointing someone like De Zerbi would be yet another risky move similar to appointing Frank and former manager Ange Postecoglou, who recently made some headline-grabbing comments against Spurs. Thus, Pochettino is our ideal pick to be the next Spurs manager. His previous stint at the club did not result in any silverware, but is still considered as a huge success as Spurs were a consistent top-4 Premier League club at the time who always qualified for the Champions League. Let us wait and see if Spurs appoint Pochettino once again, and if the Argentine can bring the glory days back to Tottenham.
