The AIFF Super Cup is set to begin in October 2025 as the first top competition in the Indian club football calendar for the 2025-26 season. Normally held at the end of each campaign, the Super Cup, previously known as Kalinga Super Cup due to hosting rights of the last two editions given to Orissa, will now take place before the league season as the ISL or the top-flight waits for tender process in accordance with the new AIFF constitution to restart again after he was put into hold by FSDL after disagreement with MRA renewal. This will be the sixth edition of the Super Cup and for the first time, it is being played twice in the same year. FC Goa are the defending champions after becoming the first club to win the title more than once in April 2025.
Only Odisha FC from the ISL and Churchill Brothers of the I-League have refrained from participating in the current edition of the Super Cup, which features 16 teams, including 12 from the ISL and four from the I-League. The clubs are divided into four groups, with the tournament returning to a group plus knockout format. Only the group winners will proceed to play the semifinals. The winners of the competition will be rewarded with a slot in the 2026-27 AFC Champions League 2 preliminary stage. The 2025 Super Cup will be hosted in Goa at two venues, GMC Athletic Stadium and Fatorda Stadium. The draw for the tournament took place on 25 September 2025, declaring some exciting ties to watch in the group stages.
ISL outfit Hyderabad FC has shifted base to Delhi and the franchise have been rebranded as Sporting Club Delhi after the draw for the Super Cup already took place. So, they will participate in the competition with the new name. Earlier Real Kashmir opted to play in the Super Cup and drawn into Group A but later withdrew citing the uncertainty on I-League's future. Goanese giants Dempo SC will replace them.
Like the 2024 edition, ISL Shield champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant and former winners East Bengal FC are drawn into the same group, which means a nerve-wracking Kolkata derby is on the cards. Chennaiyin FC and Dempo SC are the other teams in Group A. Three ISL sides, host FC Goa, Jamshedpur FC and NorthEast United, face I-League winners Inter Kashi are placed in Group B, while Group C consists of Bengaluru FC, Mohammedan SC, Punjab FC and Gokulam Kerala. The final group, Group D, contains Mumbai City FC, Kerala Blasters, Sporting Club Delhi and Rajasthan United. The tournament starts with the group stage played between 25 October and 6 November 2025, with the semifinal scheduled after the international break, where India will play Bangladesh on 18 November 2025 in the crucial AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers Final Round tie.
