Punjab Kings chased down the record 265 against Delhi Capitals

In the crucial Delhi Capitals vs Punjab Kings (DC vs PBKS) match in Delhi on Saturday afternoon (25th April), Punjab Kings created history by chasing the record-breaking target of 265 runs. The match experienced some top records, including in the first innings.


After DC chose to bat first, they scored 264/2, where the opener KL Rahul scored 152 not out off 67 balls with 16 fours and nine sixes. Also, Nitish Rana scored 91 runs. In reply, PBKS openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh had a 126-run opening partnership in just 6.5 overs. Captain Shreyas Iyer slammed 71 not out off 36 balls with three fours and seven sixes, as PBKS chased down the target in 18.5 overs after losing four wickets. 


KL Rahul: 6 IPL centuries 

KL Rahul hit his sixth IPL century.

  • Rahul became the fourth batter to record at least six IPL centuries. The other three batters are Virat Kohli (8 centuries), Jos Buttler (7 centuries), and Chris Gayle (6 centuries). 

  • While Rahul scored his second century for Delhi Capitals, he became the third batter to record two centuries for the franchise. The other two names are Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner. 


KL Rahul: Fastest IPL hundred 

KL Rahul completed his century in 47 balls.

  • It was the fastest century by a Delhi Capitals batter. The previous record was the 48-ball century by Quinton de Kock and Virender Sehwag. 

  • It was Rahul's fastest IPL century. His previous fastest IPL century was a 56-ball hundred against Mumbai Indians in 2022. 


KL Rahul: 152 not out 

KL Rahul scored 152 not out.

  • Rahul recorded the third-highest individual score in IPL history. The top two records are 175 not out by Chris Gayle (Royal Challengers Bangalore) vs Pune Warriors India in 2013, and 158 not out by Brendon McCullum (Kolkata Knight Riders) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2008.

  • Rahul recorded the highest T20 score by an Indian. The previous record was 151 by Tilak Varma for Hyderabad against Meghalaya in 2024.


KL Rahul and Nitish Rana: 220 runs partnership

  • It is the record partnership for any wicket for Delhi Capitals. The previous record was 189 runs for the unbroken second wicket against Deccan Chargers in 2012. 

  • It was the second-highest partnership for any wicket in IPL history. The record is a 229-run partnership for the second wicket between the Royal Challengers Bangalore batters Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers against Gujarat Lions in 2016.
