Which match should be the main event of SummerSlam 2023?

Now that WrestleMania 39 is in the books, the next big 4 PPV from WWE will be SummerSlam 2023 and that will held in the first week of August in Detroit and the tickets have started selling and already more than 30,000 tickets have been sold with the expectation that more than 50,000 tickets will be sold for the show and so Triple H will be keen to give the best show for the fans.

The most important match of the show will be the main event and there are a few matches that could main event the show and both of them involve Roman Reigns as the champion leading into the event. There are 2 opponents that could face Roman Reigns but in this article the one with the most sense would be talked about looking at what happened at WrestleMania. 

So, let’s look at at the match that should main event SummerSlam 2023:

Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes for Undisputed WWE Universal Championship

There was the other option of Roman Reigns vs Jey Uso but that is not that big of a match to main event SummerSlam and that match will most likely happen at the Saudi Arabia show where Roman Reigns will enter 1000 days as Champion. Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes is the right main event to do at SummerSlam because at WrestleMania 39, Cody Rhodes suffered the adversity that he needed to have before he could truly Become the face of WWE.

A lot of fans were upset that Cody Rhodes dud not win at WrestleMania 39 but they fail to see the big picture and the big picture is that that first Roman Reigns had to reach 1000 days as Champion because this kind of rare opportunity is happening after more than 35 years and nobody knows the next time such a huge opportunity will come. Second, Cody Rhodes was not at the level of Roman Reigns yet because Roman was at the top for 3 years and Cody had only a few matches before challenging Roman Reigns and at SummerSlam he will be at the same level.

And finally at SummerSlam, the one thing that has not happened since 1000+ days and Roman Reigns not being pinned for almost 4 years will come to an end as Cody Rhodes will finish the story and in doing so he will become the face if WWE and Roman Reigns will go down as the greatest champion of all time. Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes 2 will be even better than the first match because there will be more emotional investment and WWE will pull the trigger.
