Indian athlete Seema Kaliramna clinched the bronze medal in the women’s discus throw event in the Commonwealth Games 2026, while her native partner Nidhi Rani finished in fourth place.
Seema Kaliramna won bronze despite four foul throws
Seema had two valid attempts out of six attempts, as her second and third attempts recorded distances of 57.32m and 58.65m, respectively. Jamaican Samantha Hall claimed the gold medal with her best throw of 61.66m, while Canadian Julia Tunks claimed the silver medal with a throw of 60.67m, but Seema secured third place confidently to secure the bronze medal.
Although Nidhi Rani recorded all six valid attempts, her best one was a distance of 57.10m, as she closely missed out on the podium.
Who is Seema Kaliramna?
Hailing from Bhiwani district in Haryana, Seema Kaliramna’s father inspired her to take up the sports, who was a basketball player and javelin thrower in the Indian Army. In her school days, Seema was also involved in boxing, kabaddi, and wrestling. Her husband, former discus thrower Ravinder Kaliramna, is her coach.
Seema is pursuing her PhD in Physical Education. In the 2025 National Games, she won the gold medal with her throw of 52.07m. She qualified for the CWG 2026 with her personal best throw of 59.73m at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar.
