Australia Women Win ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 Final

There were rising questions whether the dominance of the Australian women’s cricket was facing massive challenges in the modern generation, especially after failing to reach the Final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 and ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. However, Australia Women once again proved their dominance by stretching their Women’s T20 trophy success record after lifting their seventh T20 World Cup title after comfortably beating the hosts England Women in the Final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. In the meantime, we are still waiting for the second team that can win the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup trophy for the second time.

ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 Final: Australia Women won by 7 wickets

Australia Women’s captain Sophie Molineux won the toss and chose to field first. While England Women scored 150/4 in 20 overs, Australia Women chased down the target in 17.1 overs after losing three wickets, as they won the match by seven wickets.

Nat Sciver-Brunt and Freya Kemp set some hope for England Women

England lost both their openers in the single-digit scores inside the powerplay, as the hosts managed 39/2 at the end of the powerplay. Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and Alice Capsey handled the early pressure with a 35-run partnership for the third wicket, as Capsey was out after scoring 23 runs. While Heather Knight (2) was also dismissed cheaply, Freya Kemp played an important role in bringing hope for the English team.

In the last nine overs, the English skipper and Kemp had an 80-run partnership for the unbroken fifth wicket. Sciver-Brunt scored 58 off 53 balls with five fours, while Kemp smashed 44 not out of 28 balls with four fours and one six.

Among the Aussie bowlers, Kim Garth (1/20), Lucy Hamilton (1/19), Sophie Molineux (1/32), and Annabel Sutherland (1/34) all took one wicket each.

Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield made the chase comfortable

In reply, Lauren Bell bowled the opener Georgia Voll (9) in the second over, but the smile for the hosts didn’t last long, as another opener Beth Mooney and the no.3 batter Phoebe Litchfield had a 100-run partnership for the second wicket to take complete control in the game. Mooney scored 64 off 49 balls with 10 fours, while Litchfield scored 48 off 35 balls with six fours and two sixes. Ellyse Perry (13*) and Ashleigh Gardner (3*) comfortably finished the game with 17 balls remaining.

Mooney not only won the Player of the Match award in the Final, but also won the Player of the Tournament award after finishing as the second leading run-scorer with 238 runs in seven innings with an average of 47.60.

  • Australia won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title for the seventh time. Previously, they won in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020, and 2023.
