The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 started with the Pakistan vs New Zealand match at the National Stadium in Karachi on Wednesday (19th February). While Pakistan suffered a big defeat in that tournament opener, Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf created an unwanted in ICC ODI tournaments history.

Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss in the tournament opener and sent the Blackcaps to bat first. New Zealand opener Will Young (107 off 113 balls) and the middle-order batter Tom Latham (118 not out off 104 balls) scored valuable centuries, while Glenn Phillips scored a powerful 61 off 39 balls with the help of three fours and four sixes.

Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf recovered from his recent injury and was included in the playing XI for the tournament opener. However, later in the first innings, Rauf wasn’t seen as completely fit for the match. The right-arm pacer ended the innings with the bowling figures of 10-0-83-2.

With the expensive bowling figures in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 opener, Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf created the unwanted record for the most runs conceded by a home bowler in top-level ICC ODI tournaments history (Men’s Cricket World Cup and Champions Trophy).
