During the Lahore ODI between New Zealand and South Africa on Monday (10 February), South African opener Matthew Breetzke created history. On his ODI debut, he became the first cricketer to score 150 runs on ODI debut.
It was the second game of the ODI tri-series, where the visitors New Zealand and South Africa faced each other. After New Zealand chose to field first, South Africa scored 304/6 in 50 overs. Proteas captain Temba Bavuma opened with the ODI debutant Matthew Breetzke.
ODI debutant Matthew Breetzke scored 150 runs
The 26-year-old ODI debutant Matthew Breetzke, who already played one Test and 10 T20Is, impressed with his batting in the Lahore ODI. In his three-hour stay in the crease, the right-handed opening batter scored 150 off 148 balls with the help of 11 fours and five sixes.
Breetzke became the first batter to score 150 runs on ODI debut. With his batting, the Proteas cricketer broke the almost 47-year-old record for the highest individual score on ODI debut, which West Indies cricketer Desmond Haynes scored 148 against Australia at St John’s in February 1978.

In reply, New Zealand chased down the target in 48.4 overs after losing four wickets and advanced to the Final of the tournament. While the opener Devon Conway scored 97 runs, former Blackcaps captain Kane Williamson hit his first ODI century after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, as his 133 not out off 113 balls guided his team to a comfortable victory.
