CFC vs HFC Match Preview
Chennaiyin FC have failed to be consistent with their results on the pitch. The 3-2 loss to Odisha FC at Kalinga Stadium proved the side’s frantic state again although it was a close match decided in the second-half stoppage time. The Marina Machans went two behind when Iranian Vafa Hakhamaneshi scored an own goal to give the home side the lead in the 31st minute and then Diego Mauricio, coming off the bench this time, converted a spot-kick after half-time. Thomas Bradaric’s men responded wisely after that letting substitute Abdenessar El Khayati score for the third game in a row on the hour mark. The Dutch midfielder followed that with his fourth strike of the season in the fourth minute of added time to level up. He will be now forcing his way into the starting eleven from the next game. However, there was still time for Nanda Kumar Sekar to strike a dramatic winner past the custodian Debjit Majumder to prevent the team from South India snatching a point out of the game. Heartbreak for Chennaiyin FC who put in a lot of hard work to come back from a two-goal deficit. Their third defeat of the season puts them in the seventh spot but only two away from a playoff spot. Chennaiyin FC’s rollercoaster ride restricted them build a steady momentum with a win often followed by a loss. They have not suffered successive defeats in the league this season and that could be their motivation factor ahead of facing Hyderabad FC at home. The Nizams have suddenly lost their rhythm in the past two games this season but their potential is undoubted. The Marina Machans have also lost three of the last five meetings against them. Hyderabad FC is likely to give it all in this clash to recover their season and it maybe the wrong time for the hosts top face them.
Hyderabad FC once again endured a 1-0 defeat in the ISL this time against ATK Mohun Bagan preventing them from going back to the top of the table. Far worse, Odisha FC’s win over NorthEast United descended the Nizams to the third spot. Before the defeat to Kerala Blasters in the previous game, Hyderabad FC went for a five-game winning haul. It looked all set for the holders to pull them separate from the rest of the group early for the top spot. However, the successive losses have caused a five points gap between them and league leaders Mumbai City FC. Manolo Marquez’s men expected to fight the duel with the Islanders but the crumble has allowed Odisha FC to join the party with ATK Mohun Bagan also breathing down their shoulders. Further slip-offs may cause them to completely get out of the playoff picture. It will be disastrous for the side that enjoyed a tremendous league campaign last time. However, there is no reason for Hyderabad FC to hang their heads in dismay as they enter a more favourable run of fixtures. The Nizams face Chennaiyin FC, East Bengal and NorthEast United in the three games this month. All of the sides have been inconsistent this season and are out of the playoff spots. Hyderabad FC will not find a better round of games this season to rearrange themselves. They will certainly fancy their chances against the Marina Machans in the next match with the head-to-head record suiting them more. Coach Marquez knows his players cannot produce another dull display in the attack against a team only managed to keep one clean sheet this season. The lack of scoring touch from last season’s top scorer Bartholomew Ogbeche is concerning. The Nizams could hope he reinsert himself at the right time in the next series of games to set them back to the winning path.
