A round of 16 game for the ages as two powerhouses in the form of England and Germany battle out their supremacy at Wembley. Whoever comes top in this clash will meet Sweden or Ukraine in the quarterfinal stage of Euro 2020.

England qualified from the group stages without losing a game. Gareth Southgate predictably went for a path to draw out results rather than playing to their full strength. An opening 1-0 day win over Croatia is followed by a disappointing 0-0 draw against rivals Scotland. Still, they managed to get the job done with another 1-0 win over Czech Republic to reach this stage. Raheem Sterling was scorer behind those goals as he brushed off his poor club form and made Wembley his home. Topping the table handed England home advantage but certainly an opposition they dread.

Germany were minutes away from getting dumped from the competition in the very last game of the group stage against Hungary saved only by a Leon Goretzka's equalizer in the crucial time. Hungary lead twice in that game and almost caused the upset of Euro 2020. Already in a so-called 'group of death' Germany started their campaign with a defeat to France before turning heads in a highly entertaining 4-2 win over Portugal. Joachim Low's side has shown both side of coin of their three man backline so far. They wish for a positive outcome against a good side.

ENG vs GER Dream11 Team News :

England can only name their star duo Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell back if they advance to the quarterfinals. The Chelsea pair didn't played against Czech Republic after coming in close contact with Scotland's Billy Gilmour who is Covid positive. They are forced to self-isolate and can only end their quarantine in the day of the game. Harry Maguire made his much awaited return from his ankle injury in featuring for ninety minutes against the Czech and he is certain to partner John Stones at the back for this all important clash. Jack Grealish impressed in his first full minutes at the Euros and confirmed his starting place for the Germany game.

Joachim Low is still without Lukas Klostermann as he continues to suffer from his thigh issue. Jonas Hofmann is finally fit but he is unlikely to make it into the eleven. That means Joshua Kimmich will continue in the right wing back role. Leon Goretzka scored the decisive leveller against Hungary to rescue Germany from group stage elimination and is likely to replace Gundogan in the midfield pair with Toni Kroos. The good news is that Thomas Muller have shaken off his knee injury. He trained well after making a cameo off the bench against Hungary and will start against England instead of Leroy Sane. Antonio Rudiger missed training in the weekend due to cold but expected to start the game.

England vs Germany Predicted Lineups :

England: Jordan Pickford; Kyle Walker, John Stones, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane

Germany: Manuel Neuer; Mattias Ginter, Mats Hummels, Antonio Rudiger, Joshua Kimmich, Toni Kroos, Leon Goretzka, Robin Gosens, Kai Havertz, Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry

England vs Germany Head to Head :

England vs Germany brings history, drama and moments that defines the rivalry between the sides on the international stage. And the Wembley stadium showcased possibly the best of those. Whether it is the 1966 triumph by England in the World Cup in this venue or current Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate missing the penalty shootout decider at the Euro 96. 32 times these two have rubbed shoulders with each other with Germany just edging England with 15 wins compared to 13.

ENG vs GER Dream11 Team Prediction :

GK: Jordan Pickford (Eng)

DEF: Robin Gosens (Ger), John Stones (Eng), Mattias Ginter (Ger), Joshua Kimmich (Ger)

MID: Kalvin Philips (Eng), Toni Kroos (Ger), Leon Goretzka (Ger)

FW: Raheem Sterling (Eng), Kai Havertz (Ger), Jack Grealish (Eng)

Jordan Pickford has been impenetrable guarding the sticks for England and coming up with important saves even. He currently leads the clean sheet chart for the tournament. Robin Gosens's explosive run and goal contribution from the left wingback position makes him one of the best in that position while Joshua Kimmich has been great too in his makeshift position. Goretzka is a midfield locomotive capable of scoring goals too. Kalvin Philips's massive work-rate is important for Three Lions to have control in the middle of the park. Raheem Sterling and Grealish combined for the goal against the Czech that placed them into last 16 and Havertz lead the line with important strikes in the last two games.

Match Prediction: England 1-2 Germany (AET)

England have an outstanding record at Wembley and are yet to concede a goal. They have drawn out necessary results even not being in the standard everyone expected. It may haunt them down this time. Although Germany have a defense with little faith, they certainly have the talent and quality and precision in the attack at least to get them through. England will try to keep them off the perch for the big chunk of the game with a conservative approach yet it won't be enough.
