Even though FC Goa started on a winning note in the tenth ISL season with a 1-0 victory over promoted side Punjab FC, head coach Manolo Marquez was visibly unimpressed with the performance of the team. The former Hyderabad FC coach is hoping to win the tussle considering FC Goa has dominated this fixture historically even before the Kalinga Warriors rebranded itself from erstwhile Delhi Dynamos.
It will be a consecutive reunion for Sergio Lobera after playing out an entertaining 2-2 draw with former club Mumbai City in their last ISL game. They were denied victory twice in the match with Jerry Mawihmingthanga’s opener from a Mohammed Nawaz howler cancelled out by Rostyn Griffiths shortly after the break with Jorge Diaz netting a late leveller following substitute Roy Krishna netting from the penalty spot. However, they failed to carry the positivity of restricting last season’s table-toppers to suffering defeat again in the AFC Cup this time to Basundhara Kings 3-2. Even after taking the lead in Bangladesh through Diego Mauricio and managing to cut the deficit through Jerry Lalrinzuala in the 66th minute. The second consecutive loss in the competition after a 4-0 home defeat to fellow side Mohun Bagan Super Giant has left a bitter taste in their mouth. They will hope to turn things around against FC Goa with whom their head coach started his ISL journey.
