HFC vs BFC Match Preview

Hyderabad FC showed just how good their attacking force is with a resounding 3-0 victory over bottom-placed NorthEast United but this time maintaining a clean sheet in the game. League’s top scorer from last season, Bartholomew Ogbeche scored his first of the new campaign in the 13th minute before seeing his penalty saved by Arindam Bhattacharya in the second half which earned from a high boot challenge by the Highlander defender Gaurav Bora in the box. Nothing to be disappointed about as Holicharan Narzary swing into action by doubling the lead in the 69th minute and then assisting substitute Borja Herrera to hit the final nail in the coffin. Manolo Marquez will be jubilant with his side’s performance as the holders could not have asked for a better display ahead of returning back to their home stadium, GMC Athletic after two seasons. The season opener with Mumbai City was supposed to be held there but got shifted to Pune for some last-minute renovation works. The 3-3 result in that game might have been an entertaining one for the neutrals but a lesson for the Nizams to control games better in order to defend their title this season. Anyways, the win in the next game showed opening games are always unpredictable as the holders gear up for an important clash against Bengaluru FC in the third match of the 2022/23 season. This clash will remind Hyderabad FC of the meeting prior to the start of the ISL this season in the Durand Cup where Onaindia’s unfortunate own goal knocked them out from the semifinals of the prestigious tournament. Bengaluru FC went on to win the Durand Cup for the first time in their club’s history. Manolo Marquez’s side will be ought to take revenge for that and stretch their unbeaten run in this meeting to five ISL games. Ogbeche has scored three goals in four games with the Blues so far and the champions will be counting on him once again to take them over the line in the game.

Simon Grayson’s side has carried their Durand Cup success momentum into ISL with an unbeaten start to the campaign. Following their 1-0 win against NorthEast United in the season opener, Bengaluru FC shared the spoils in an end-to-end game with 10 men Chennaiyin FC last week. In the southern derby, Roy Krishna gave the away side an early lead in Chennai but their plans to keep Marina Machans at bay did not work as Prasanth equalized moments before the half-time whistle. The Fijian striker looked lively throughout the game and his run in behind the opposition defense caused Debjit Majumder to foul him for the shot-stopper’s eventual dismissal in the second half. The result and the performance won’t disappoint Grayson as the team showed solidity with Gurpreet Singh Sandhu making five saves on the evening but will urge his side to be more proactive in certain situations. Overall, the team is clicking well with the former Sunderland manager’s tactics which was a major issue in the disastrous last couple of seasons in the ISL for the club. Facing the champions, the Blues will hope to mimic their win in the Durand Cup to put an end to their record of only one win in this fixture since Hyderabad FC’s introduction in the league in 2019. Bengaluru FC also drew 1-1 in the first-ever meeting with the Nizams and the only-ever away clash. Conceding defeat in the two games last season also left a bad taste in their mouth. Grayson knows this is a huge clash for his side desperate to get into the playoff places this season and the intent could be shown by beating the champions while Hyderabad FC are adamant to not materialize it in any sense. All of these make this encounter at the GMC Athletic Stadium a blockbuster.

HFC vs BFC Team News

Akash Mishra and Joel Chianese will be unavailable once again as they recover from their injuries with Manoj Muhammad continuing to start at right-back and new signing Borja Herrera claiming a place from the start after scoring as a substitute in the 3-0 win in the last game. He could replace Javier Sivero up front as the only change Manolo Marquez could wish to make to his winning team. Bartholomew Ogbeche is on course to score his 20th goal for Hyderabad FC in just 22 games played.

Bengaluru FC also have no injury concerns to worry about with Simon Grayson having his regular players at his disposal. Roy Krishna scored the 30th goal of his career in the 1-1 draw against Chennaiyin FC alongside Sunil Chettri who made his 91st ISL appearance in the derby. Sivasakthi has made himself a mainstay in Simon Grayson’s plans and he will start his third consecutive ISL game in a row.
