Chennaiyin FC are desperate to open the new year with a win as they travel to JRD Tata Complex to face a floundering Jamshedpur FC team.
The Men of Steels fell to a 3-1 loss to Kerala Blasters at Kochi on Tuesday while Chennaiyin FC lost narrowly to Mumbai City 2-1 on Christmas eve.

Jamshedpur FC failed to follow up their 2-2 draw with FC Goa last year with anything positive against Kerala Blasters after their 3-1 loss at Kochi. They hope to turn things around Chennaiyin FC first to build the necessary momentum for East Bengal and Bengaluru FC clashes next. Otherwise, bottom-placed NorthEast United will soon breathe on their shoulders if things improve on their end.
Chennaiyin FC ended the year 2022 with a defeat although narrowly to Mumbai City FC. Like in the reverse fixture, Petar Sliskovic gave the Marina Machans a shock lead in the 34th minute but it was cancelled by Lallianzuala Chhangte who scored against his old side just four minutes later. Greg Stewart then struck the winner in the second half. Despite the loss, Chennaiyin FC will have positives to take as they were one of the few sides not to have been outplayed by the Islanders. Certainly, a struck improvement from their 6-2 hammering in the earlier clash of this season. Since then, Thomas Brdaric’s side have only managed two victories and a draw in six games. Both of the wins came against the last two sides of the league. They faced Jamshedpur FC right after that loss and returned back to winning ways by claiming a 3-1 victory. The chance is now to do it again before making a treacherous trip to face Hyderabad FC at Gachibowli next week.
