JFC vs NEUFC Match Preview
Lallianzuala Chhnagte’s opener for Mumbai City FC at Mumbai Football Arena with only five minutes on the clock threatened another disastrous evening for Jamshedpur FC but Daniel Chima stepped up at the right moment by heading home a long throw-in seven minutes later flicked on by Harrison Sawyer. The Red Miners had to soak up the pressure from the home side for the rest of the game offering one more shot on target other than the equalizer and only sustaining 29% possession of the ball. Goalkeeper TP Rehensh had to be equal to a couple of efforts from Mumbai City’s star attacker Greg Stewart including a free-kick to keep the score-line level at the end of the game. Coach Adrian Boothroyd knew they cannot take an unnecessary risk against a title-challenging side like the Islanders so will be happy to take the draw to register the first point on board. The ISL Shield Winners from last season return to their home where they suffered a humiliating defeat to Odisha FC even after taking a lead within 10 minutes of the game. The loss of points that evening will drum in their mind again when they take onto the pitch even though their opposition on the night NorthEast United carry a similar winless run like them albeit playing a game more. Jamshedpur FC have lost only once to the Highlanders which came as a shock in January of last year during the bio-bubble season and none at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. However, that victory came back in 2018 in the first-ever meeting between these two at this ground. Adrian Boothroyd’s side have managed only one point from two game and are sitting 10th just a point above the Highlanders something that definitely needs to be improved upon. A win will be of urgent requirement before they face three of the present top six teams next month.
NorthEast United are fearing the worst again this season with a lack of direction repeatedly showing up. The 3-1 defeat to East Bengal resulted in their 14th loss combining two seasons and an unwanted bottom two places are where they find themselves once more. The Highlanders have conceded seven in the first three games itself having conceded the joint most last season revealing their leaky defense that went through little changes in the transfer window. Seemingly without a firm objective set for the new season, NorthEast United are showing no signs of improvement. The team is equally poor at home and in away games causing all sorts of headaches for head coach Marco Balbul, feeling the pressure of his job even this early in the season. The franchise holders have been notorious for sacking managers halfway in the season and while it has certainly not boiled down to such a situation it is left to see Balbul’s strategy for the upcoming games to try to recover the slump for NorthEast. Like every other game, the Highlanders created a handful of changes but failed to convert them with the only goal scored this season came as a consolation in the last game from Matt Derbyshire in the injury-time of the defeat who also hit the woodwork earlier on in the game. Struggling both in attack and defense, the trip to Jamshedpur FC is a crunching one with the home side also losing form with the record against them as well. But the Highlanders have come out with a point in the last two encounters at this ground only positive they can count on ahead of the fourth meeting here and 11th overall. Marco Balbul’s side also have a merciless calendar ahead with Kerala Blasters, ATK Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City to face next month.

JFC vs NEUFC Team News
Jamshedpur FC are keen on their new signing Jay Emmanuel-Thomas making himself fit to start the game as he came on as a substitute in the draw against Mumbai City FC. Other than that there is no injury concerns in the squad as coach Adrian Boothroyd wishes to keep his starting eleven from the game unchanged. Daniel Chima’s fascinating scoring rate continued with his eighth strike in 12 games for the Men of Steels although he has not scored against NorthEast in the ISL.
NorthEast United is still missing the service of right-back Provat Lakra in the game. Playing in that role, Mohammed Irshad was also taken off past the half-hour mark in the defeat to East Bengal which was more of a tactical change than an injury. Emil Benny replaced him as an attacking change with the former Gokulam midfielder also coming back from a shoulder injury. Irshad may not start the next game with Zoherlina likely to get the nod. There are no other changes expected from the Highlanders.
