Spain defeated France in the previous meeting, thanks to Lamine Yamal's brilliance, to progress to the Euro Championship final, which they won last summer. They could be on the doorstep for further success by overcoming Les Bleus again with another face-off at the semifinal stage of a competition, namely the Nations League. France head coach Didier Deschamps is fully aware of the challenge that ‘one of the best sides in Europe’ will possess, having witnessed it in the Euros despite taking the lead in that semifinal encounter. Les Bleus are back in the mix for the Nations League finals after failing to get past the group stage in the previous edition, registering the same points as Italy but topping their group with a slightly better goal difference. That first-leg defeat was the second in the competition after having lost to Azzuri in the opening group, but Deschamps’s men have been unbeaten in 14 other games since March 2024. Since reaching the final of the 2022 World Cup, France has fallen short in following competitions, so there will be an added impetus to beat Spain as they did in the 2021 Nations League final. Amid the obvious goal threat, La Roja has failed to keep a clean sheet in the last four games while conceding two or more goals in the previous three, which Les Bleus can exploit.
