Eberechi Eze has once again caused misery for Tottenham Hotspur, as the English midfielder scored a brace to help Mikel Arteta's side earn a 4-1 victory over their North London rivals. The former Crystal Palace star was the hero when Arsenal faced Spurs previously in the league in November, which ended with the same scoreline as Eze scored a hat-trick in that game.
Eze has had a mixed start to his Arsenal career, as flashes of brilliance have been followed with inconsistent performances. This has led to Mikel Arteta frequently benching him and Eze struggling to get a permanent spot in Arsenal's first-team. However, that looks to change now based on what Arteta said about the player in his post-match press conference
Mikel Arteta praises Eberechi Eze after heroic performance against Spurs
The following were Mikel Arteta's comments on Eberechi Eze during his post-match press conference after Arsenal's 1-4 win over Igor Tudor's Tottenham side:
On if he know about Eze’s goalscoring prowess in the second half of the season:
We looked at every stat, but that one, to be very honest, no. I mean, he's scored five goals in the last two games against them, which is extremely difficult to do, but I could see that he wanted to prove something. He was upset, even with me, because I didn't play with him the other day from the beginning and some of the decisions that I made. And I start to understand how we're going to get the best out of him now.
On if he’s spoken to Eze about his impact in this fixture:
You just have to look at his face and the way he was in the dressing room and with that big smile and his eyes are just expressing everything that you need to. He came here for a reason and we need those moments from these players. I think he and the front players today, I think they've done what we expect from them.
Eberechi Eze looks set to play major role in coming weeks as Arsenal look to win the Premier League
Based on what Mikel Arteta had said about Eze in his post-match press conference, it looks like he is extremely happy with the player and planning to give him more opportunities as Arsenal are about to have a tough run of fixtures ahead. The fact Arteta had also mentioned that he now knows how to get the best out of Eze is a huge statement, and undoubtedly a big boost for the player and club. Unlocking the best out of creative players like Eze can be a huge plus for the likes of star striker Viktor Gyökeres as well, who'll need proper service from the midfield to help Arsenal with his goals.
We really feel the game against Spurs might end up being a game-changer for Eze when we look back at it once this season ends. We believe the Real Eze has finally showed up, and he's set to play a big role for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal as the Gunners are set to compete for multiple titles this season.
