Igor Tudor: rewinding his career as a football player and manager so far
Igor Tudor had a strong and varied career both as a player and a manager. As a footballer, he was a versatile defender who could also play in defensive midfield, and he spent the majority of his career at Juventus, where he won several major trophies and established himself at the top level of European football. On the international stage, he represented Croatia at UEFA Euro 2004 and at the 1998 and 2006 World Cups, missing the 2002 tournament due to injury. Unfortunately, recurring problems with his right ankle forced him to retire early at just 30 years old in 2008, after spending his final season with his boyhood club Hajduk Split.
After retiring, Tudor quickly moved into management. He began his coaching career with Hajduk Split from 2013 to 2015, before taking charge of PAOK in Greece for part of the 2015–16 season. He then moved to Turkey, managing Karabükspor and later Galatasaray in 2017. In 2018, he took over at Udinese in Serie A and successfully steered the club away from relegation, later returning for another spell in 2019. In 2020, after another brief return to Hajduk, Andrea Pirlo brought him into Juventus’ coaching staff, highlighting the trust in his tactical knowledge and leadership. Tudor went on to manage Marseille in 2022, leaving after one season, and later had a short stint at Lazio in 2024. He returned to Juventus as manager in 2025 but was dismissed after a difficult start to the season. Now in February 2026, he has joined Tottenham Hotspur as an interior coach, and would be hoping to do a great job at the club.
Igor Tudor: Player analysis
Igor Tudor was considered one of Croatia’s best defenders from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s. He was a physically imposing and hard-working player who excelled in aerial duels, making him a major threat during set pieces. Strong in man-marking and tackling, he also stood out for his tactical intelligence. Although primarily a centre-back, Tudor’s versatility allowed him to play across the defence or even in defensive midfield, thanks to his stamina and solid technical ability. However, frequent injuries limited his consistency and impacted the overall trajectory of his career.
