Erling Haaland is a known and special name in world football for his incredible non-stop goal-scoring ability. He just proved it once again on his World Cup debut, as the Norwegian star started his World Cup journey with a match-winning brace.
Norway returned to the FIFA World Cup after 28 years, previously appearing in the 1998 edition. In their first Group I game of the FIFA World Cup 2026, Norway faced Iraq, where the UEFA side won by 4-1.
Erling Haaland 1st World Cup Goal
Erling Haaland scored the first two Norwegian goals in the match, as both were recorded in the first half of the match. In the 29th minute, Haaland successfully netted David Møller Wolfe’s cross to set up a 1-0 lead for his team.
Erling Haaland second World Cup Goal
After Iraq equalised 10 minutes later, Haaland scored his second goal in the 43rd minute, as Norway regained the lead. This time, Iraq's defence reacted lazily even in front of Haaland, and the Norwegian raised his speed to grab that opportunity successfully.
In the second half, Norway added two more goals. While Leo Østigard scored Norway’s third goal in the 76th minute, which was a result of a corner, Norway added the fourth goal in the second half stoppage time through an own goal.
