Nico Hulkenberg’s journey in Formula 1 has long been defined as a matter of consistency, technical skill, and a restless pursuit of success. The 37-year-old German driver is in his 15th F1 season since he debuted in 2010. With 242 Grand Prix entries, he secured his first-ever podium by finishing third at the British Grand Prix.  After racing for six different F1 teams, Nico now removed the tag from his name as the record for the most F1 races without a podium. Yet, his first career podium in F1 at Silverstone has made him the perfect choice for Audi’s F1 project for the 2026 season.

On July 7, 2025,  Hulkenberg proved to be in denial. He started from the back of the grid on Saturday qualifying, and when the lights went out, he went into beast mode. With the chaos created on the track due to the rain, drivers felt devastated to race under wet conditions. Many drivers, like Franco Colapinto and Liam Lawson, were out of the race, but on the other hand, Nico Hulkenberg stepped onto the podium in his 15 long years of F1 career.

Even his celebration was widespread by the moment and was greeted by congratulatory messages from rivals and former teams.

Why Hulkenberg’s Podium Is Promising for Audi F1’s in 2026

The German auto manufacturer will take over the full stakes of the existing Kick Sauber Formula 1 team for the 2026 F1 season. With this amendment, the team will be rebranded as Audi Sauber or just Audi F1 Team in 2026. With the new agreement, the team will also have access to the new power unit regulations and promising sustainable fuels.

Nico Hulkenberg’s podium at Silverstone is more than a personal triumph or an individual win. This win is a signal to Audi and Sauber that he is the right driver to lead this new era.
