West Indies started their Super Eights journey of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a thrashing win against Zimbabwe in Group 1 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, which was played on Monday night (23 February).


After Zimbabwe chose to field first, the West Indies slammed 254/6 in 20 overs. Shimron Hetmyer slammed 85 off 34 balls with seven fours and seven sixes, while Rovman Powell scored 59 runs off 35 balls with four fours and four sixes. Also, Sherfane Rutherford had a strong cameo of 31 not out off 13 balls with three fours and two sixes.


In reply, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 147 runs in 17.4 overs, as West Indies won by 107 runs. While the no.8 batter Brad Evans scored 43 off 21 balls (two fours and five sixes), Dion Myers (28 off 15 balls) and captain Sikandar Raza (27 off 20 balls) were the other Zimbabwean batters to score 20+ runs. 


Shimron Hetmyer recorded fastest fifty for West Indies in T20 World Cup 

West Indies cricketer Shimron Hetmyer scored a 19-ball 50 runs.

  • It is the fastest fifty by a West Indies cricketer in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup history. The previous record was a 22-ball fifty by Shimron Hetmyer against Scotland in Kolkata earlier in the group stage of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

  • It was the third fastest T20I half-century by a West Indies cricketer. The top two fastest records in this list are 17-ball fifty by Chris Gayle (vs South Africa at Cape Town in 2015) and 18-ball fifty by Evin Lewis (vs Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2018).


Shimron Hetmyer equals most sixes in a T20 World Cup edition 

West Indies cricketer Shimron Hetmyer has smashed 17 sixes in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

  • It is the record of the joint-most sixes by any batter in an edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Nicholas Pooran from West Indies previously held this record alone with 17 sixes during the 2024 edition.

West Indies scored 254/6 in 20 overs. 

  • It is the second-highest total in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The record is 260/6 by Sri Lanka against Kenya in the 2007 edition.

West Indies won by 107 runs. 

  • It is the second-largest winning margin (by runs) for West Indies in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup history. Their record is winning by 134 runs against Uganda in the 2024 edition.
